To Add Friction Modifyers To Diffs or Not To Add ?

Just took ownership of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with SelecTrac 4x4 setup and intend to do complete fluid -flush and fill in every nook and cranny

Owners manual as well as Chryslers recommendations found on Amsoil's specific vehicle specs lookup, say to add 6.5 % Mopar Trac Loc friction modifier to the 75W-140 GL-5 syn fluid the factory specs for.

I will be using either Amsoils 80W-140 or Severe Gear 75W-140.

Ok you AMSOIL specialists, do I add the Mopar friction modifier or not, to both the differentials? Don't want any performance trouble in a short time by making an oversight decision here.

Yes - you can use the Amsoil Slip-Lock or the Mopar Trac-Lock.

Use it without and add on an as-needed basis. Amsoil claims that their fluid should work fine in most limited-slip differentials.

It's in your best interest to use as little additive as possible. The FM additive has been proven to cause the oil to perform worse in oxidation tests in comparison to an oil without the FM, so you should use as little as possible.

Depends if the rear has the LSD. if open diff, you dont need the
aditive. I have an 02 WJ with 4.7 and NV242 and the diffs are open. I have been using my last batch of 75w-90 series 2000 in them.
