TL going, going, gone......

Sad to say, but traded in the 2012 TL. Loved this car, but it didn't love me back.

I have been a Honda person for over 20 years. 95 Civic, 2000 TL, 2008 Accord v6, and now the 12 TL SHAWD.
I fortunately did not suffer the transmission problems of the 2000 TL or the VCM issues of the 2008 Accord. Seems my good karma ran out on the 12 TL. The engine developed the oil consumption issue resolved with a new block and valve guide seals. The prop shaft was replaced, and the transmission software updated to protect the torque converter. So far, so good. All replaced under warranty and working fine.

Then the final straw. Prop shaft noise seemed to return. Further diagnosis revealed the rear differential was failing. The diff fluid was replaced faithfully every 20K, long before the motor minder recommended. I do not drive under severe conditions. Car was 7K over the warranty. Since almost every component of the drive train had failed, I contacted Acura corporate for some "good will". No dice, over 5k for repairs.

The car car looks and drives like a new car. But I just can't trust this car anymore and have lost faith in Honda products. Really a shame.

Did you pay for the 5K in repairs?

I don't see why you need an AWD car. I know CT winters can be bad, but with snowtires you could probably handle most situations unless you live at the top of a large hill.

How would you know he doesn't Need a AWD car. He wants AWD. A lot of pickup truck owners don't need it but want it.

Bummer. I wonder if these more "sport oriented" AWD systems sold by companies that don't truly have a long term core competency in AWD (unlike, say, Audi or Mitsubishi) are more prone to failure and issues. Id suspect that the AWD implemented in a Pilot or MDX would be more robust but less oriented towards handling and weight.

Its sad that there was no goodwill given your history and how close you were to warranty. Were the fluid changes done at the dealer?

Not every brand is solid throughout. I love Honda but I'd always pick models carefully when buying Honda. I probably wouldn't ever own a V6 automatic Honda, but a manual Civic or Accord absolutely.

I'd skip the is300 f sport. I work for a lexus dealership and these are under powered for the money you pay. If i had to buy one it would be the is 350 f sport. But again Toyota ie lexus is thoughtless on many areas including the back seat size being ridiculously small. The f sport nets you no power advantage either which is a letdown due to the price.

All fluid changes were done by me. Documented on Acura owners website and purchased the correct fluid from the dealer with saved receipts. Mechanic acknowledged that the fluid looked new and was filled to the correct level.

I walked from Honda too. My first was the 1986 Acura Integra LS... great car. Nearly a dozen more after that my last was a 2013 Accord Sport and when the lease expired it made me happy.

It's a shame that so many things went wrong with the car. I am surprised to hear about the AWD unit failure -- you don't hear of that very often. Best of luck with your new Lexus. I'm sure you'll love it!

The best way to send a message to the brand, is to stop buying. You had far more patience than Honda / Acura deserved.

Some people have problems with Toyotas and some with Hondas. Allegiance changes all the time. I have a 2003 CRV and a 2006 Highlander. Sometimes I have problems with one vehicle and swear I'll never buy it again but after fixing the problems, my fondness for the vehicle comes back. Overall, I must say I like my Japanese vehicles more and more each year as the miles accumulate. My CRV has almost 200,000 miles and my Highlander has almost 100,000 miles. I hope to drive both of them until the wheels fall off.

Acura/Honda fit and finish has also gone downhill so much so that I don't even consider it a luxury brand anymore. Maybe smart luxury but not true luxury like Lexus, BMW, MB, Audi and Cadillac.

As a former Honda fan boy, I can relate with your discontent. A '08 Accord, and the lack of dealer/manufacturer support is what pushed me away. After 108k troubled miles, I walked.

I absolutely love that color! Everytime I see a Lexus in Atomic Silver I do a double take, it has such a rich depth to it, especially on a bright sunny day.
