Yes it does have the "ladies car" reputation but I could care less about that part of it. I do generally prefer sedans or coupes so I'd rather have the Honda even though the $18K is way more than a fair price for it.$18k for the accord? The practical guy in me says take the money and run. Thats an incredible deal for you. The RX is legendary for being incredibly well built. It’s also a “bubble car” which my wife told me Not to buy (story below). So I’ll pause here… because I understand car regret. If this might become “the one I should have kept,” sell the RX.
I was looking for an RXh. We were about to test drive one and stopped for a bite to eat. My wife was coming along as “wise advice” to balance out my stress on this one. I really wanted the vehicle but knew some of this was being frustrated with the DD I had at the time. So I admitted to her over dinner, “I need you to be aware of this weak spot in me, that the RX SUV doesn’t scream ‘manly car,’ and I could be a little senstive to that.” She went OFF on me for 5 minutes. “I don’t care what a manly car or girly car is! Do you think my dad, who worked hard his entire life, Ever cared if a car was manly or not…?”. She went on and on. Got it.
We get to the dealer and they pull out the RXh. She goes dead silent and we start a test drive. She starts making bad noises (wife). She’s trying to find the words. So I start poking and prodding at her and she finally breaks loose, “this is the kind of car you give to your 16 year old girl.” My eyebrows hit the roof and I sssstared at her. She was a bit ashamed and said, “no I don’t want you in this car.” There wasnt even a tag line, “…but if you really want it….” Shame. The ride and drive was exceptional. It was built solid and heavy like a bank vault, qualities I like, and that V6 hybrid was returning close to 30 mpg on the test drive. Those are some of the best vehicles Lexus has ever built IMO.
Like what? The Accord is pretty good IMOI changed my opinion. Sell both, buy another nice manual car for around $10k max, pocket $8k plus whatever the Lexus is worth.
In my opinion $10k can buy a pretty decent used car. But I am also not afraid of a bit more mileage on a vehicle and I keep my vehicles forever too.Like what? The Accord is pretty good IMO
Easy decision for me but it's not my money. Sell both of them for an Acura Integra Type S.Currently have two cars. My daily driver is a 2014 Accord Coupe with a V6 and a manual transmission which has zero problems and only 35K miles. Also have a 2011 Lexus RX 350 which I use to transport my elderly dad (the Accord is too low for his ingress/egress) which is basically trouble free and has a whopping 190K on the odometer.
The old man is set to move out of state to be nearer my brother and live in assisted living. The new living situation is a bit expensive so I'll be coming out of pocket around $1K a month. Since he's leaving I only need one car and I need to decide which rig to get rid of.
The Honda is a pleasure to drive and I am still enjoying rowing the gears, although I'm getting older (54) and not sure how much longer I'll want to be driving a manual. I would say I like but don't love the car, and I have an offer of $18,000 currently for it.
The RX is fine but not nearly as enjoyable as the Accord. Its comfy and even though it has high mileage I think it's still very viable as a daily driver. I'm guessing I could get around $6K-$7K by selling this car.
The $18,000 I'd pocket by selling the Accord is good margin for my newly expenses, but this car will probably go a significantly longer time than the Lexus before needing any major work or replacement.
Dilemma Dilemma. Any input from the peanut gallery on here?
