Tire Rack Tests All Weather Versus Winter Tires

I found this testing interesting so I figured I'd share it here. I've been seeing a lot more "all-weather" tires here in Michigan (the tread pattern of the CC2s is hard to miss) and I've always been curious how they actually compare to dedicated winters. As I currently run Blizzak WS80s, I would've liked to see the wet weather performance of snow tires be a bit better, otherwise going through the hassle of swapping sets in my driveway each season appears to be worth it for the best case scenario.

Maybe it already exists and I've just missed it, but I would love to see a comparison of UHP all-seasons to all-weather tires to see how they perform in spring/summer/fall climates.

That would be an interesting comparison test for sure!
As-far-as the UHP All Season vs All Weather tire comparison. I believe that both will shine for their respective categories and for their intended purposes. My bet is…
The UHP will do better at the track and dry roads when the temps are appropriate(above 40*F). And the AW will do better in foul weather and colder temps.

Let the test begin! 🍻

Good video.

Have WS90s and realllly don't like them in the mild winters we've had in Chicago the past 3 of 4 years. They very noticeably give up a ton unless it's very cold and snowy/icy.

Was already planning on going to a performance winter but the vredestein all weathers might be an option too.

For sure! That was my general assumption as well. Hopefully they'll get to a similar comparison.

I think the data generally seems to support the hypothesis that I had been coming to: that AW tires are just the same compromise as AS tires except skewed a little more towards winter driving at the expense of dry and wet weather driving.

A general statement, of course, and depending heavily upon the particular tires involved.

I also still have not heard any evidence that AW tires are any good in the snow when they are halfway worn. If a true winter tire is worn out by between 5 and 7 32nds, how would an AW tire be any good in the snow anymore at that tread depth?
