I don't get why Toyota enlarged the xB and replaced the xA with the xD and put in the 2.4 liter engine. Now they're compact cars that get so-so gas mileage when compared to others in their class.

Have you considered a Hyundai Elantra? And it seems like some people can get new Kia Rios for close to your price limit.
Th xb is a truck.I think lol.
The new epa estimates seem to be low for some reason,my yaris gets the highway mileage estimate in the city.
I'm sure scion sites would have the actual mileage.

The Rios can be found from time to time one of those loss leader deals in the dealer's newspaper ad. I have seen the Rios listed at 7999 before.

Funny you should mention the Yaris. I just test drove a brand new '09 5 door liftback "S" model. It had the the 4 speed auto and I loved it. I also loved the 5 door version as compared to the 3 door, much more versatile. However, I wouldn't be interested in getting a new one, or getting the "S" model. I like the tach, but this car is WWWWWWAAAAAAYYYYYYYY overpriced at $17.5K. I don't know what was different about this Yaris as compared to the first liftback automatic I drove that always felt like it was in the wrong gear. This one drove very nicely and the transmission seemed to work just fine at keeping the engien RPM's where they needed to be. You're right about the being more leg room up front than my Corolla. It was very comfortable. This is my favorite contender so far (though I will have to drive the Civic again and the all new '09 Fit).

I've never looked at a Yaris. Is it really that roomy up front? I hate it when those center consoles are hitting your right leg. Is the inside actually roomier than a Rolla? I'm a big guy, 6'2", 300#, do you think I would be comfy driving it? What kind of revs would the engine be pulling in 5th gear with a manual trans at 70mph?
