Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

The big Dodge rolled over 150,000 this morning on the way to work.

It's a 1998 Dodge RAM 2500 4x4 with the 5.9L V8. Had since it was new. It's had Penz. 10W30 in it until about 3000 miles ago wherein it was switched to Mobil 1 10W30. OCI of 5000 miles or quarterly whichever came first. Planning on going 10,000 with the synth. and swapping out the filter every 5,000. Currently using Wix filters.

'95 4.3 S10 Blazer. PZ 10W30 & generic Puro (Group7, Powerflow, etc). Change at approx. 3,500 mi. Don't know if it uses any oil between changes,,,I never check it.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2, 171,000 miles. My dad (original owner) changed the oil every 9-10k miles, whatever 10w30 dino was on sale at the time. Drove from Milwaukee to Chicago and back with zero oil pressure on the gauge at 150k miles. I run Supertech 20w50 to maintain OP at hot idle, burns less than 1/2 quart between changes (3-4k OCI.)

1995 Escort GT, 215k when it met its demise in an accident. The oil was changed every 3k at the local garage with whatever they had, not sure what they used.

The engine in that car (1.8) was great. The car was driven like a rental car since new, and never used oil between changes. The clutch was even original. Actually, come to think of it, everything on that car was original aside from brakes, tires, hoses and a couple of tie-rod ends. Fun car for what is was.

1992 Plymouth Voyager, 2.5 L., 180,072 miles. I purchased the van new on May 8, 1992. After 7,500 miles, I changed to Mobil I 10W-30 and have used it exclusively throughout its life. At 168,127 miles, I had to change the head gasket. I was impressed at how clean the internal engine was. I continue to use the car to drive to work. As long as it continues to be reliable, I'll keep it.

1995 Dodge Intrepid ES, 3.5L V-6, 24 valve SOHC. 166,000 miles. Has had nothing but Mobil-1 10w-30 and Purolater Pure One filters since 5,000 miles.

Runs like a sewing machine, burns no oil, although it leaks a bit (about a quart per 5000 miles) through the passenger side cam seal. Last time I changed spark plugs they looked perfect... just as good as the original set (one of which I kept for comparison purposes).

This is now my "spare car" (new car, '05 Mustang GT). I was going to sell it, but it runs so good and is worth so little on the open market, I decided to keep it. It sits for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, but starts right up with nary a valvetrain noise even after sitting for a month. I then drive it on the highway for 20-30 miles, just to give it some excercise. So, no complaints about Mobil-1!

1993 Cavalier 2.2 244,000 miles and still running. 1996 Caprice 176,000 miles and still running. Both use no measureable amount of oil with 6K OCI. Both have had mostly group III or 4 "synthetic" over their lives, some HDEO has been used in the summer months. Filters have been what was on sale except for the last two years which has been Pure One almost exclusively for all my engines. Rickey.

'83 VW GTI 155k when sold, little oil consumption. Conventional oil, mostly Castrol 10w-40, changed at 3-5k.

'85 GTI, 160k when sold, almost no consumption. Castrol or Valvoline conventional, mostly 10-40, changed at 4-6k.

'88 Mercedes 190E 2.3, 252k when donated away last year. Conventional, mostly Valvoline 10w40, at 4-7k miles. Very moderate oil usage.

'93 Volvo 240 wagon, 190k, still have as my wife's spare car, too great a vehicle to part with. Conventional, Valvoline 10w-30 or 10w-40, very moderate consumption.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, just turned over 150,000

Only thing I do is LOF

and had the air conditioning condenser replaced .

Oil change every 5-7,500 or spring and winter whicher comes up first.

Almost forgot - did a coolent flush at 100,000

'86 SAAB 900 Turbo, 172K, M1 10W/30 w/ 5K OCI's since new. No oil consumption, just a little weepage at the rear main. Mech. looked at it with a borescope at 140K and said cyls. looked brand new.

'84 RX-7 13B. 245K miles. 20-50 dino , oci 3k , but many top-offs from the wankels oil usage under heavy abuse. Maybe 3 quarts over 3k miles, under horrible abuse. It just wont die....
'86 rx-7 was daily driven , 170k miles , 20-50 dino , oci 3k ,maybe 1qt over 3k as top off.
Both cars have been sold, and their condition is unknown now.

1987 Mazda B2000 (154,000 miles) very little power but pretty reliable engine.

1992 Buick Skylark (150,000 miles) my GM paint blinds drivers behind me as it flakes off on the highway, but it still runs good and gets close to 30 MPG on the highway.

Audity,

What is great about that Volvo 240? I've been thinking about trying to find a good one for my wife to drive. Solid and dependable, but beyond that I don't know much about them.
