Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

1986 Buick Somerset with the 2.5L "Iron Duke" 4 cylinder that had just under 300,000 when I got rid of it. I ran nothing but Valvoline All Climate 5W30 in it with a Fram or ACDelco filter.
It never burned any oil throughout the life of the car, but I had to change the valve cover gasket about every year. I guess these engines had problems with the valve cover gasket.
I later found out that the car started on fire while going down the road. The guy didn't bother with the leaking valve cover gasket and the engine caught fire.

On the topic of leaking valve cover gaskets.. When I first met my wife, she drove a 96 Pontiac sunfire 2.2L. We still have by the way and it was leaking oil out of the valve cove gasket pretty badly. It was leaking so much it was fouling the plugs. about 1 quart/1200 miles. I talked her into taking it to a shop I trust. They replaced the valve cover gasket. She didn't trust me with her car back then, we were just dating for less than a month at the time.

1998 Volvo S70 with 181k miles. Change oil every 10k miles with M1 10w-30 and Pure1 filter. The vehicle uses 1qt. of oil in 10k miles and still runs strong .

1985 Chevy Astro 4.3L v6 350,000.00 miles. Change oil every 4K 10W-40. Leaks oil from all gaskets, but do not burn any. No work been done on engine and tranny.

1979 toyota supra with the 4ME engine, 290,000 miles using ARCO GRAPHITE for the first 140k and then mobil1 for the rest. always used the toyota filter, but the one for the landcruiser, which was about 2in longer. wasn't using any oil when i finally lost track of it at 300k plus. change every 3k.

1984 ford F250 6.9 diesel. always used shell rotella 15-50, drank about 1qt every 500, was rebuilt at 130k sold at 321k. change every 2k

1994 mazda miata, mobil1 oil and filter 155k, using oil because of the bloody K&N air filter i used for awhile. 1qt every 5k, which was the OCI

I had a 1985 Buick Skyhawk with the 2.0 OHV 4-cylinder that ALMOST caught on fire b/c of a leaking valve cover gasket - it didn't leak a lot of oil betwen changes, but it leaked steadily, so after the two years I owned it,the engine was pretty evenly coated with oily grime. I had been driving around a lot one particular day, and that evening I made a high-speed run to my friends house, and as I got near his house, the engine compartment started smoking really badly. I opened up the hood, and no word of a lie, most of the engine was glowing red with smouldering oil. I just closed the hood and hoped it didn't catch fire. It didn't, but I got rid of the car very shortly after that!

I ran a 1968 Mustang (200 c.i. strait six and 3 speed stick) to over 300,000 miles on K-mart oil and filters......

1986 BMW 325es with chipped original M20 Eta motor

Still getting 26 to 30 mpg after 450K + miles of fun driving.

Started life on Castrol GTX 20W-50 every 3K

Then Mobil1 15W-50 every 5K

Until I discovered Redline 10W-40 which works very well and OCI is every 7K

1989 Toyota 4WD pickup. 4 cyl 5 speed with 230,000 miles. Main oil used Castrol 10W-40. That is what dealer used when I bought truck. Tried M-1, didn't see any advantages. Currently has Havoline 10W-30. OCI's have always been 3K.

155k on a '96 Toyota RAV4.
The first 85k is unknown as we bought it used for $4500.
One timing belt later, nothing but regular maintenance.
Hard to say how it was treated before we got it, but if it died tomorrow and had to be hauled away, it paid for itself 5x over.

1998 Ford Contour SVT. Bought new. Up to Currently 222,000 miles. I intend to get it to 300,000 miles and then see if I still like it. I think I will.

Up until 190,000 miles, 3K oil changes usually with Mobil dino 5w30. Since then, whatever synthetic I find on sale at 5K intervals. That includes Mobil 1, MaxLife syn, and currently Pennzoil Platinum. Engine still runs like new. I have a small oil leak from either the oil pan gasket or the front crank seal or both so that I need to add one quart during the 5K interval. I don't think the engine is burning any oil. The quart of make up oil usually isn't sny.

I owned a 1988 Volvo 240 wagon from 1997 until 2002. It had 122K on it when I bought it and I have no idea what oil was used and how often it was changed. I used Shell Rotella 15-40 and Mann oil filters while I owned it. It wasn't using any oil, but was rusting away so I traded it in. It had 202k on it at that time.

92 Nissan Sentra 202,000 miles. Don't know the history for the first 105,000 miles. Have used all kinds of oil and filters for the last 97k. Rear crank seal leaks. Consumption is 1 qt/800 miles. Some days it runs real smooth. Daily driver to work 55 miles round trip for the past 3 1/2 years and I don't really trust it.

1993 Corolla, 1.8 liter. Had 100k when I bought it, and had been fairly well taken care of but not as well as I'd have liked. Now at about 158k, consumption has decreased, and fuel efficiency (at least in the summer) is now better than the EPA estimates for the current model Civic (and in winter it's still way up there). Consumption has gone from about 1 pt. per 1000 miles to about 1 per 3000. I do 4-5k changes.

For a long time I ran Maxlife synthetic 10W30, then did an Auto-Rx cycle last year, then switched to Redline. The improvements have been steady and measurable during the last 58k since I've had it, though I don't really know enough to say what element caused which improvements, and it's probably about as good now as it's going to get.

1996 ford ranger with the 2.3. Manual trans, I got it with 123K miles and now has 165K. Previous owner did 3K mile OCI, I don't know what kind of oil, I am doing something different almost every OC. Right now I have valvoline Maxlife Dino 5W30. I have tried oils from 5W20 to 15W40.
