Thinking of getting a larger hard drive for my desktop

oh gosh i wanna puke. multiple browsers open with how much instances running with what they are doing?

I have MS Edge open with one tab open and it uses no more than 12 instances.

Every month or two is a long time to go without rebooting. How long has it been since the last time?

When you restore open pages/tabs, how many are were talking about?
Maybe a few weeks ago when a transformer down the street popped and the power went off a few seconds.

Years ago I would shut down the computer every night, mainly to save the HDD which would be spinning nonstop. Then I read you don't have to, and of course with SSD, no moving parts to wear out.

Right now I have three Chrome windows on with 10-15 tabs open in each, and one each of Edge and Brave with 5-10 tabs.

You should restart at least weekly, if not daily when you're not actively on your computer. Lots of things just seem to work better and issues go away after restarts; I almost always ask my end users if they restarted their PC first if they're having issues with their work computers.

you were saying it's "garbage" well I like to hang onto all of my data over the years
That's not what I said nor was I referring to "user" data. I'm referring to countless programs that get installed and NEVER properly clean up after themselves when you uninstall them, programs that people install, forget they even have, and never use, and so on.

oh then I was mistaken, apologize for that! That does make sense and I do the same thing, clean up programs you never use again and just taking up space.(y)

Says 13.4 GB being used and I have 32 GB installed.

That's not your pagefile. That's just the status of your physical memory. pagefile is virtual memory that's used when you run out of physical memory.

Again, if you have enough physical memory, then just disable the virtual one using the instructions which I linked to.

Which version of W7 do you have (Home, Prof, etc.)?

I think if you accept that you are a digital "hoarder", no shame in that, I think you should go with an expansive server level HDD (8tb minimum). Clone and expand full use of that 8tb, and keep the SSD as an offline backup.

And HOLY ZDDP, you are a special use case if you are actually able to tax your 16GB of memory. You actually would benefit from a RAM upgrade.

Most users just buy a gazzlion excess of RAM because their favorite youtuber did the same on some build or they heard having tons of RAM or investing in ram upgrades increase overall PC performance (pure BS).

Pro 64 bit.

Why? I'm only now, after 6 years, filling up the 500 GB drive. And after you go SSD, you will never go back to a HDD. Might want to give one a try.

Could be related to memory leaks from the browser that are normally fixed in updated versions but in his case, at least with Google Chrome, it's stuck on whichever version it is because of the old OS.

Chrome dropped support this month I believe, so should have been updated. I do recommend those with w7 machines still accessing the internet to run Firefox, they seem to be supporting w7 still.

Im not your computer, so cant tell what happened in those 6 years to fill up the SSD. That being said, with phones pushing 1TB for storage, 500gb is kind of hard to pass these days.

When you bought the 500gb SSD, why didnt you opt for a 1TB or greater SSD?
Googled the specs
Dang, didnt know they still made that as a feature. I guess if the PC is performing as needed, SSD upgrade and be done. If its not performing as you'd like, quite a time to make that jump.

Again personal decisions and value, us BITOGers cant make that decision.
