Thinking of getting a larger hard drive for my desktop

I wouldn't trust Samsung after this

SSDs are always best backed up by HDDs IMHO, you can at least recover an HDD by a recovery company whereas an SSD is impossible for the layperson.
Then I wouldn't trust anything because they have all had issues over the years

Another option and I don't know if it was mentioned, is to add a second HD/SSD. presuming you have the open bay in the computer. You won't need to reinstall your operating system or clone the existing drive to a new one. Apparently, you have two Optical drives and one is currently "D:".

If you add a second HD/SSD you can either remap the current "D" drive to say "F" and your second drive can become "D". it doesn't matter as long as you can remember what it is. Then I point all my user data to the second HD/SSD. So my Documents folder appears as such but it's on, in my case, the "D" drive instead of my "C" drive. All my applications/programs reside on the "C" drive, an SSD for speed.

I don't trust them SSDs overall which is why I backup to HDD, but if OEMs are dropping them, well that's a big sign to me.

They are dropping the 990 not all Samsung. We use SSDs to build software with reads a writes lots of files when doing builds and I have never had one fail yet. We have had a few start to throw errors and we replace them before they get bad.
Backup is good no matter what you use.

Why can't I open this file named pagefile.sys to see what's in it or what its for so maybe I can delete it?

Untitled.webp

it would be identical upon startup. Only difference MORE SPACE!!
Problem with that is you bring over years and years of garbage. Every so often, whether its Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android, I wipe the drive/storage and "start over". I have important stuff saved.

If he didn't need it it wouldn't be saved. Upgrade to a bigger drive, keep everything! easy..
Wait until you have a hard drive puke and you lose everything. I'm not a fan of enormous storage, preferring multiple, smaller ones.

Says 13.4 GB being used and I have 32 GB installed.
Don't bother with this. You have quite a lot of RAM as I recall so your swap file isn't something to worry about nowadays. It's also "dynamic" in size, growing or shrinking as needed.

You have a LOT of data that's either duplicated or can/should be moved to external storage. If you're not accessing pictures on a weekly basis or so, there's zero need for it to be on the primary drive.

Only have 80 GB of important stuff in photos and documents I'd hate to loose, and those are in 4 separate folders for easy access, plus the Favorites list in Windows. What's wrong with bringing over years of garbage when there is twice the space?

I’ve got a 6 yo laptop with a 512Gb SSD and it’s a similar situation. With a child and lots of picture and video taking the drive gets consumed pretty quickly. I’ve got a small fleet of WD Passport USB drives to offload photos and videos onto. I try to make sure stuff is copied twice across the drives incase one goes kaput. I bought some of these many years ago. I think some are 1TB and some are 2TB.

External backup to a cloud service would be even better along with a hard copy on an external drive than two hard copies.

You could also look into one of those attached network storage RAID extrernal drive setups that automatically clone for redundancy. They also make large capacity SSD external drives as well but may be pricey.

How long did you wait ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Personally, I've never opened a 33gb file but I'd guess it might take a while !
