Later this year those little demons will also go after my apple trees. I'm thinking of spraying cat pee on the apples to keep the rats off. Anybody got experience doing that?

They do look cuddly, but they are rotten rascals! One came through my kitchen window and ate most of my Cap'n Crunch!

I may have to get a really hungry cat-also as a cat pee donor.

Here they are in my beautiful copper beech (image 2 through 6), up to no good!

The straight on pics make it look creepy.

Get a 10 pump pellet gun with Gamo pointed pellets. It's quiet and if it'll take down rabbits, it'll do the same to tree rats.

A single pump breech loader Crosman in .177 caliber is my weapon of choice.

Over 600 fps with a nice Crosman match pellet takes them out if my old Coonhound doesn't get 'em first.

Nice photos.

Try to enjoy the presence of the squirrels. When you view them as a decoration in your yard they are quite pleasant to have around. I used to be upset at them but changed my viewpoint (after all, where I live is their territory and I am just an invader).

Now I enjoy watching them work hard all year long. The little nuisances are well worth having these intelligent creatures around.

I never have any problems with squirrels. We have alot of them though, but they're skinny and skittish.

My parents feed their squirrels. They're fat, slow, and lazy. I swear they're furry pigs. They come to their screened porch and start making noise when they run out of sunflower seeds.

I have a neighbor who live traps them and moves them to a wooded area a few miles away. Not sure how well that works, as there always seem to be new squirrels moving in to replace the ones that get moved out. I know that coating bird feeders with hot tabasco sauce will stop the squirrels from chewing through the plastic of which the feeders are made. Probably wouldn't work that well with apple trees though.

I've had them chew the air filters off my weed trimmer and push mower. The damage is incredible!

This year they chewed a hole in the fuel tank of the hedge trimmer.

I shoot them.

Dead.

Squirrels are adorable - my family used to raise orphaned squirrels when I was young. All started when i rescued a litter of them from a tree a neighbour had felled.

I've had 3 pet rats as well, and 3 rabbits...yeah, I like rodents!

Just last night I was reading about keeping squirrels out of my garden. I mixed up some cayenne pepper spray to spray on the plants. According to what I read, squirrels are very sensitive to the active ingredient in it.

Plus, it would be better than spraying cat urine on something I wanted to eat like an apple.

I mixed it with 16oz of hot water and 1.5 tbs of cayenne pepper. After it cools strain it with cheesecloth and put it in a spray bottle. Also, some recipeies call for a little squirt of dish soap, which I think is to help it stick to the plants.

I haven't tested it yet, but the cayenne pepper water definitely tasted very hot before I put it in the bottle.

This page has links to a bunch of other recipes.

+1 on the dab of dish soap. It will act as a wetting agent to help the solution spread out over whatever it is you're treating.

Rabbits are not rodents, they are lagomorphs. But yeah, squirrels are a very cute menace. If they didn't have those fluffy tails I'd murder them. Saved by the tail!

I don't eat those apples but let the neighborhood kids have them. I also make apple pie for the in-laws.
