They need to stop with these black editions

The blackout (when it's not plastic) looks good on some cars.

However, my biggest b**** is the increase in black plastic around the wheel wells of so many cars, even higher end cars. Looks pretty cheap on a $60k vehicle.
Alternatively, it helps reduce the amount of rotted out wheelwells. Which if you live anywhere close to the salt belt will be present on pretty much every domestic pickup more than 4 years old. That said I don't really understand why anyone cares, so what if people want to spend a little bit extra to get some black trim, what's it to you? Sheesh.

I think the end result will be the opposite. The wheelwell cladding will trap moisture and salt and grit and make the sheetmetal rust out faster. Maybe if there is an upside, is that it might hide all that rust for a longer time.
The reason I don't think that's true is because the large cause is probably salt and road debris striking the rolled over sheetmetal and damaging the clearcoat and paint and exposing bare metal, which rusts. The cladding prevents that from happening so it's less likely to cause rust.

The plastic claddings have been around for a long time. They do serve a purpose. A lot less paint chipping around the wheels.

I have an all black 2007 Grand Cherokee that looks sharp and has no chrome. The wheels are the standard silver painted versions. Not about to black out the wheels. Just use a plastic restorer on some of the trim that has grayed with age and sunlight.

Black editions need to come in white.

Yes but theirs is an extreme performance version of a high performance car. Not an appliance car with black wheels and trim.
Once again I ask, who cares? Why do you care? Don't want black appearance package, don't get it. Simple. The option being available and people spending money on it affects you not at all.

Did I say anything to that effect? No, I made a factual statement. You’re reading into it and it’s your problem, not mine. I don’t care if cars I don’t own have blacked out plastic trim. I merely pointed out the difference being the origin of the trend was performance based not an appearance package.

In the minority here... own a Midnight Edition Altima, I think Nissan does well with these and prefer black wheels and trim over chrome.
