The Passion of The Christ

Buster, that's right, I missed Dateline which had a special on it last night at 8:00. I was planning on watching it, then forgot. I did see the History Channel's investigation into who killed Jesus of Nazareth. I thought that was good. They broke down into three suspects

1) Sanhedrin
2) Pilot
3) Jesus

Being as brief as I can be.... My take is that #1, Jesus was Jewish, as were most of his followers. After His death on earth, the Jewish religion split into two camps, those who believed in Jesus (aka Christians) and those who didn't and continued to follow the Pharisees and Sadducees (aka Jews) and are still waiting on the Savior. No biggie, I don't hate on anybody except those whose religion tells them to kill me (see 9/11 thread). Point was made on talk radio here that Schindler's List didn't make people want to go out and harrass Germans. Personally I could never figure out anti-Semitism. AFAIK, nobody hates on me because I'm Lutheran, why should me or anybody else hate on Jewish people? Last I looked, they weren't hijacking and crashing planes.

The wife and I got into a sneak preview of the new Starsky And Hutch movie tonight. Pretty good but could've been better. Excellent attention to 70's detail. Ben Stiller has Starsky down cold.

No mention of what oil was used in the Torino.

"No mention of what oil was used in the Torino."

I'm betting straight 30wt.

On topic, it's interesting that for the first 30 years or so after the death of Christ, the apostles were only attempting to preach to Jews. I believe that St. Paul was the first to try and convert the gentiles.

I have listened to him and read his statements.

That's all?? How about an example?

I have listened to him and read his statements. I must have missed something?

Please give me an example of his religious bigotry. If you are willing to publicly call him a religious bigot, you ought to be willing to back up your statement. Otherwise you are the bigot????

Tim , maybe you have not heard, but Mel's father is quoted as saying that the holocaust was a farce and that Jews are looking to take over the world.

That's Bob's reasoning, I would guess.

I am aware of his father's strange views. This does not make the son a religious bigot, I'm sure you agree?

At the end of the day it's all still faith and no matter what any one thinks, it's all speculation. Every aspect of it.

Sprintman, there has been a major push by Jewish leaders in this country claiming this movie is anti-semetic.

There has been no claim that the movie contradicts the New Testament. Will there be a subsequent push to limit the distribution of the New Testament as that is anti-semetic?

Amazing his should come up now. Last night on SBS I watched the first episode of a British series called "Who wrote the 2nd Testament". As a non-religious kinda guy (I follow christian values though) it was extremely interesting and well researched. Anybody else seen this program?

Read the Bible. Jesus had been preaching for what most accept as 3 years. Then he cleaned up the temple, breaking up a few rackets. I bet the temple smelled the best it had in years. He was gone in a week. I am not sure I have seen much suggesting it was other than the Jewish leaders pressuring the Romans into doing the dirty work the Romans didn't allow them to do.

To set the record straight, Acts 10 talks about Peter and the gentiles. It's interesting because he's the last person who would have wanted that assignment. Give it a quick read. It's one of my favorite stories in the NT.

A) Movie protected is Free Speach protected by Constitution.

You have a right to agree/disagree with it.

B) It is my personal opinion that Jesus Christ was a politically liquadated by by collusion between the Romans and Jewish authorities.

Clear and simple prophet, mortal, son of god whatever you classify him as he was a political and religious threat to the status quo.

It is absolute BS that someone would brand me or anyone as an "Anti-semite" for bearing that opinion.

If the movie breeds anti-semtism than it will be the morons who do not have the intellectual capacity to code the movie as it is. It should take more than a movie to brainwash someone. Then, again some people are so weak minded all it takes is a bloody commercial

Who hear was alive 2000 ago? The blood is not on my hands or the italians or jews of today. It is history? Do I hold a grudge against my Japanese neigbors for WWII? Thats absolute non-sense.

Groups like the ADL and JDL are playing there deck of cards wrong. Differentials of religious belief are exactly what they are.

Tim, I thought Bob was talking about Gibson, Sr. I am not aware that Mel is a religious bigot, nor have I heard any evidence of same.

If I believed he was talking about Senior, I would have to admit my error.

He stated the movie is a "for profit endeavor, made by a religious bigot".

Jr made the movie, not Sr. Hence my question to Bob Woods (which has still not been answered). Why do you say Mel Gibson is a religious bigot?

Tim

Well, has anybody seen the movie? I will probably go watch it on Saturday. I work on Wednesday so I will have no chance to view it until Thursday at the earliest. If anybody sees the movie let us know what you think of it.

Can you please provide some of these public statements in context? Merely referencing "statements" is not sufficient to the charge you level.

NO I can't, I don't have time to search for them.

Well, there you go!
