the home heating oil price thread for 2006-7

I just got a price protection letter from my oil company for price capping it at 2.799/gal. This is the cap so if it falls below that then I get the lower price, or I can go option b and lock in at $2.699/gal but if price goes lower than that I still pay $2.699.

what's the forecast of home heating oil (#2 diesel) for the coming winter of 2006-7?

what is it now? I'm still paying $1.859 since I locked in last June.

should I convert my hot water heating, currently furnance oil heated and electric standy tank, over to a 50gal propane water heater? I have propane service for the kitchen stove and for living room propane fireplace.

According to the prices in the April 29 Wall Street Journal, the wholesale price for #2 oil is now 58 cents a gallon higher than a year ago. The prices you are being quoted now are over 90 cents higher than your last June price.

Inventories are supposedly ample after a mild 2005-2006 winter.

I think prices are more likely to go lower than higher by June 2006.

I think electricity and propane are not a good hedge for heating oil, as in CT the price of electricity is driven by the price of natural gas, and propane is no bargain either.

glad I asked, guess I'll wait and see how it plays out. The letter I got was... better lock in now because prices fluctuate daily, don't be left out in the cold, respond by may 10 or you're sol.
I haven't been able to find out what current oil prices are, I guess they're looking for easy money.


It would be very cool if this thread were kept alive so we all know what's happening with home heating oil for the coming year, with gas & diesel prices seeming to stabilize at $3/gallon.
