The question, " what oil should I use" seems to come up often on this forum.
I propose that any well made engine will run for a vey long time as long as you
use a modern oil and filter that the engine is spec'd for and follow the OCI recommendation of the manufacturer. Filler caps have the viscosity stamped on them or you can look in the owners manual. You can choose on price and your engine will never know the difference. I can appreciate that people want the best for their engines but I also believe sometimes we tend to overthink this subject. Isn't it ironic that we can stress over oil yet will not give a second thought to what we eat?
Just sayin!

That's come to my mind many times as well. Replacing or repairing an engine or car is one thing. It's not that easy when fixing your health.

True but BITOG is the Mecca of overthinking everything

It repulses me to see grown men calling others names, like "redneck" and "neanderthal", just because they disagree with the others choice of oil viscosity. Who owns the car, anyways?

I will be glad to see the oil snobbery and elitism go away. However, in the meantime, don't let that get in the way of great information on a great site.

My thoughts exactly. Pretty much the only reason to ask is whether you can benefit from a synthetic. If you short trip and only drive 3,000 miles per year I doubt you will see any benefit of a synthetic.

I can't stand when people argue over whether to use 5w20 or 0w20 and they live in Florida. Like calm down people I doubt this guy needs -40 degree capabilities in his oil, I'm sure -20 degrees or whatever 5w is good for is just fine for an old Toyota.

I agree, overthinking is the main human characteristic, we are Homo Sapiens after all and we can overthink every topic (food, cars, Star Wars) even overthinking if we, or someone else, must overthink certain idea or not.

I am leaning towards this as well. Many motors go hundreds of thousands of miles on inexpensive oil, such as supertech and also do the same with high priced, such as M1 and Pennzoil. Just taking care of the car makes it last. I never thought too much about it before looking through this site and still keep it a low though process. There are a few changes I've decided on my vehicles but nothing major. The biggest thing for me is really what filter to use.

Hello, The point is well taken and, thankfully, pretty much acknowledged by many on this board.
Often enough we hear mention of "avoid obsessing over oil" even though it can be fun.

Since the OP mentioned food choices vis' health maintenance I'd like to throw in my 2 cents on that subject.
This is strictly anecdotal and I am not a doctor.

For long life with reduced pain DO YOGA. Force yourself if you have to. Yoga stretches you and GREATLY increases your flexibility.
If it's hard to do yoga-you need it.

Yoga means stretching, balancing and twisting.
Yoga is not standing on your head or other publicized silliness.
Yoga is not a religion of any kind so there's no need to mock it. It can't threaten you.
Yoga isn't the only exercise in the world. Don't stop what you're already doing. Adding 2 sessions per week will simply enhance your life.

Yoga is merely a workout which does not punish your body. It slows down the hands of time. I swear it's effects are great. Kira
