The $119 Nespresso Machine and pod thoughts

We used to have one of these machines at the office, and I used to find that the coffee was never hot enough, which is the case with most super-automatics. We would use an electric kettle to preheat the demitasse cups first. My semi-automatic Gaggia Classic make blistering hot espressos. I find that my Nespresso machines brew at a good temp too.
Figured I would use them with a little ingenuity. Poke my own holes!

Lavazza has been having issues with some of their aluminum capsules lately, which was never a problem with the plastic ones. What is the COO of those capsules you're having trouble with @Pablo ?

Found a Nespresso store. Deciding what flavor to purchase.

Choice depends on your preference entirely. How do you normally drink coffee?
Purchased the Roma. I will post a taste test in the morning (getting ready for bed).

I drink coffee burning hot and black.... preferably in a ceramic coffee cup....

I can say that I enjoy coffees of most different roast levels up and down the spectrum, except for extremely dark, so dark that it tastes smoky.

Circa 2005 to 2007, in that era, I used to live in Memphis, and I really enjoyed riding my motorcycle to Starbucks to get a cuppa coffee.

During that time, at least, in the daytime, and sometimes, even in the evenings, most Starbucks locations would have two different coffees on tap, something like Verona, or Italian roast, Sumatra, Etc. It was great, the coffee was fresh, and freshly made. I really enjoyed it.

However, sometime, I want to say, around 2008 or 2009 they did away with that concept, perhaps because most people who go to Starbucks, do not buy regular, brewe’d coffee. Instead, they buy the coffee, flavored milkshakes, whether hot or cold.

At that time, they stopped having more than one type of brewed coffee at a time, and they switched to just having the Pike’s Place. Good grief, that is some of the worst coffee I have ever had. Harsh. Bitter. No redeeming quality about it at all.

If you do some searching about it online, it’s quite funny, you will find where actual Starbucks employees have commented on threads about how particularly bad that coffee is, and how none of them could understand Where the decision came from to have that as their featured coffee. Makes no sense at all.

Anyway, that’s pretty much when I stopped going to Starbucks.

Nowadays, the only time I find myself in a Starbucks, is when we are on a road trip, I will say, it is preferable to gas station coffee.

I do wonder, if Starbucks will hop on the third wave, coffee, bandwagon, and start offering some light roasts.
That's funny. Pike Place pods are the only SB I like. Buy them on sale at Costco.

Actually:

1) Every Starbucks I have been in will do Italian roast espresso.
2) Not at all sure what this has to do with this thread at all
3) I bought some new style Starbucks pods, Safeway had a BOGO sale, 9.99. So $5 sleeve/BOX.

HOLD ON A MINUTE.

I SEE THE PHP PRICES. ARE YOU @GON SAYING A SLEEVE IS LESS THAT ONE USA DOLLAR???

The sleeve is ten times the published priced

Just did the test between the Nespresso Roma and free hotel generic pod. Very distinguishable difference. The roma hands down more tasty.

Show or push on the foil covered side. Good ones have positive pressure. Either CO2 or N2 inert gas.

Under $7 for the real stuff, not terrible. Try the Tokyo. Not what I expected.

I used to spend a lot of time in Italy, so I’ve become a bit spoiled when it comes to Italian coffee—it really hooked me while I was over there. I ended up buying a Nespresso machine when I got back to the States. It worked fine, but the pods were pricey and honestly not that great. When the machine finally broke, I was almost relieved to stop dealing with those expensive pods. Now, I just use a basic Keurig with generic k-cups. Of course, nothing compares to a proper espresso machine, but those can easily set you back $3,000 or more. ☕

Try Lavazza DEK, it's my favourite decaf; they are plastic though. New packaging is with aluminum capsules, but I have not tried those yet; I hope the roast did not change. Glad to hear you're enjoying your Nespresso. Yesterday, I pulled out this again:

All I use now, surprisingly it doesn't care about the extremely hard water we got. It likely affects the coffee flavour, but I don't need to descale the thing.

I have never use distilled water in any of my espresso machines and have never had issues. Apparently, espresso tastes better with water that contains minerals. 🤷‍♂️

Arpeggio is my favourite by Nespresso.
