Tesla Q1 sales flatlining, as I have predicted

Tesla announced Thursday 4/7/23 more price cuts, fifth time this year.

Im sure most old enough know the words. "Im afraid we just woke up a sleeping giant"
Toyota coming out with a 3 row all electric SUV by 2026 model year, expects 1.5 million all electric vehicles production annually
Someday the world is going to be awash in BEV's like it is with flat panel TV's right now.

I swear if they drop again I'm just going to say screw it and buy another instead of waiting few years.

Rail is all electric, what are you talking about? The diesel generator is just onboard. The rail industry would likely no longer exist if it wasn't for the electric traction motor. It was the only way to get immediate torque to actually move freight. I took a train that was 21,000 tons today with only 8,800 horsepower. The engine could physically not move it if it had to go through some coupler setup. It would simply spin the wheels or destroy the drivetrain. Oshkosh Truck just up the road from me has the contract for electric mail trucks and they're building them right now. Sorry, I forgot I was a soccer mom. I'll remember to flip my hair and berate the counter kid when I pick up my pizza tonight.

It takes emissions to make your vehicle too. It's pretty apparent though when I don't have to inhale the fumes of the car next to me. That's big.
Well I stand corrected on the rail system as it's of no real interest to me and know little about it. Electric will of course never work on mass transit such as flight, cargo ships, etc. Might be able to supplement fuel burning sources somehow, but battery just won't cut it for many uses. For my type of commuting and rural areas I frequent an EV would never be trustworthy. I actually thought my area might be cranking out more toward EVs, but not really the case.
Never said my vehicle doesn't add to emissions, but a manufacturer should just tell the truth and not sugarcoat things plain and simple! EVs might not give off any smell in transit, but they sure do when they ignite.

If they keep it up the value will be where Musk's head is... in the toilet where it belongs!
I could agree on the comparison to TVs as these days they're a dime a dozen, lightweight/short lived garbage for the most part.

Here we go with this burning BS again....

So you can just say what you think is gospel when you know nothing of it? I mean you said you didn't know about rail as it's of no real interest to you, you were just completely wrong on it. Real question.

It's tempting, but I am waiting for the Highland...
Yeah I'll likely wait. It's been less than 6 months since I bought the other Model 3. The next one will replace the GTI. Every price drop makes it more attractive because it already breaks even on the GTI between value and fuel cost to go run it compared to price and charging at home over 5 years time.

Mainstream news only gets part of the story.
They miss the detail and or context completely.

The 4680 based model Y based in Texas was basically launched today.

As the 4680 cars come online cost was expected to fall and profitability to rise at the same time.
Continued ongoing price drops are expected.

It's good strategy to keep your best selling cars entry price as low as possible.

Astonishingly it is the number 4 selling vehicle in the world.

The Model Y is the #1 car in the world by revenue, as they are high volume high margin. The Corolla is high volume low margin.
The Model Y is expected be the #1 selling vehicle of any kind in the world this year as Berlin and Austin ramp.

And you wonder why the mighty Toyota is changing strategy...

The woke folks are cooling off. The number of consumers that need a car are limited at any time. More options for those inclined to get HEV or EV cars is increasing.

Tesla still has a good brand that has good product that is competitive. They should be priced and evaluated like an industrial company.
Not sure I concur that TSLA should be evaluated like a industrial company.

I speculate TSLA is a subscription and license company, and it's model is more in line with MSFT than a traditional industrial firm. My speculation is that TSLA will be receiving royalties every month from electric car users, regardless of manufacturer, in the not so distant future.

Wrong, you dont understand the lineup. You are talking about the X, not the Y.
Oh, imagine my embarrassment.
Take away the subsidies and GM and Ford swing harder.
Really? So if I go by any of the ICE vehicles - all of which in the top 20 are middle class or working vehicles - I'll get a 10% cash back from taxpayers? Taxpayers will pay for my fuel? As it stands, I pay something like 20% tax on fuel.

Nobody is subsidizing squat for me and my autos. Beyond what the government has determined to be in the interests of national security. Even the auto maker bailouts, which I disagreed with, were repaid and deemed critical infrastructure so I can alleviate some grief.

Tesla employing overpaid elites in CA, and EV sales to rich people is none of these things. Our economy would not skip a beat without Tesla. Those folks are drowning in money on multi-million dollar properties, mansions, dozens of cars, solar panels, and so forth. The average American is driving a 13 year old car working fingers to the bone to not lose his house in foreclosure. So the champagne swilling elites can have their luxury cars on the backs of Americans. It's hogwash.

More like $60K,
Pricing appears to start at $60, mid-60s fully loaded. Add state sales taxes and registration closer to $70-75k. Add a home charging unit, I think those are several thousands of dollars. Darn close to $80k. Then, if taking on a loan, closer to $100k with interest rates as they are. My round numbers are close enough, we're discussing a luxury car where the median income of the buyer is 3x that of the average American, who is subsidizing the purchase. The gall of some rich buyers is staggering.

Getting the car and price right's a pretty important start to a discussion about the cars themselves no?

YES a 50K car is a normal car now.

Gm and Ford get way more subsidies than Tesla- you are already agreed with me on this.
What you want to do choose what subsidy you like and don't an pretend the total amount isn't what it is.
section 176 is what makes all the half ton trucks affordable, take that away and all they half halve or less in sales.

If you drive an ice car your fuel is subsidized as is your GM or FORD car.

If all the subsidy were to go away - This has happened before.
Telsa lost all tax credit. before and still became the #4 car one the world so yeah take them ALL away and it will hit the other guys harder.
