Tesla ramped production capacity to 450,000 electric vehicles at Gigafactory Shanghai within two years of starting production at the new factory.
This was ahead of schedule; Shanghai surprisingly started exports in July.
Finally this will take some of the load off Fremont. Lead times for a Model S are March April right now, due to demand and capacity.
The Plaid lead time is January February; Model 3 is November; Y is December.
The American market should now be better served; Giga Austin should start deliveries later this year.
I doubt they will deliver 1M cars this year; all the car companies are dealing with the semiconductor shortage. But 800K at the least.
According to INSIDEEVs:
"The important thing is that despite the record rate of production, the global vehicle inventory (days of supply) remains at a very low level of just 9 days! That's a clear sign that there is tremendous demand for Tesla cars."
