Tesla ramped production capacity to 450,000 electric vehicles at Gigafactory Shanghai within two years of starting production at the new factory.
This was ahead of schedule; Shanghai surprisingly started exports in July.

Finally this will take some of the load off Fremont. Lead times for a Model S are March April right now, due to demand and capacity.
The Plaid lead time is January February; Model 3 is November; Y is December.

The American market should now be better served; Giga Austin should start deliveries later this year.
I doubt they will deliver 1M cars this year; all the car companies are dealing with the semiconductor shortage. But 800K at the least.

According to INSIDEEVs:
"The important thing is that despite the record rate of production, the global vehicle inventory (days of supply) remains at a very low level of just 9 days! That's a clear sign that there is tremendous demand for Tesla cars."

From what Elon has said in the last few days, the bottleneck is not just with the chips. There are likely a few other components from outside contractors that are holding up production to some extent. The good news is that won't last forever, and demand for most models Tesla's is still extremely high.

The Cybertruck is now not expected to start deliveries until mid-2022. Tesla has orders for 1.2 million of them which is mind boggling. Even if more than 20% of those customers cancel their pre-orders, they are going to outsell the Ford F150 EV by a very substantial margin.

These are reasons that if you are a TSLA shareholder, it is prudent to "know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em"

I do not get it, why cant they build a new factory in the US to ramp up production?

Will US gov pay to clear out all the red tape like the Chinese government do? I am sure if it is a too big to fail old economy company they will have enough lobbying power but not a new tech startup relatively speaking. Big 3 will cry foul.

Tesla has 2 factories under construction.
Giga Austin Texas will be the biggest auto plant in the world. Scheduled to start production later this year.
Giga Berlin Germany for European market. Berlin has had some gvt issues; it will start production early next year.

Giga Nevada will start building the SEMI soon.

FYI, the Fremont plant (ex GM and NUMMI) has been constantly expanding. I believe there are inexcess of 10,000 worker there. This is huge, because NUMMI was the biggest employeer in the area; when they shut down many houses were foreclosed on, local restaurants and businsesses suffered. When Elon decided to occupate the Fremont, he put out 2 page adds in the San Jose Mercury-News encouraging ex-NUMMI workers to apply.

This is one reason we bought our car. Of course if I had any brains in my head I would have used that money to buy Tesla stock instead of the car...

But then you enjoy the Tesla.

But then you enjoy the Tesla.
TSLA was $70 in Dec 2018. It is $700 now.
I am so smart. S-M-R-T...

All good. FYI, I will buy another. This time it will be the Model 3 Performance, when the new batteries are here. And make life miserable for all the drop dead Porsches and stuff that cost twice as much...
Any time now, right Elon?

The Semi won't be built soon. Word has leaked out that it is at least 14,000 plus pounds overweight. Walmart, PepsiCo, Coke are getting really impatient. I'd cancelled a long time ago. Tesla just fired the head of semi production this past Wednesday.

The Semi is scheduled to be released in 2022. They are experiencing growing pains and semiconductor shortages (like everybody else).
The delay from late this year to next year was expected.

Can you cite the weight problem? Electric reported there is no problem.

I can't find anything to substantiate any of this other than that the president of the semi unit did leave the company after some 10+ years in other roles.

Well, look at the post below…

So it’s moot that US red tape is the issue. It’s a shame that they didn’t push more manufacturing in the USA.

14000 lb is not a rounding number, what is the extra fat from? It cannot be something they just "forgot about".

The resultant inefficiencies from towing, coupled with range and longevity can certainly be an effect. Make something more robust, with more design margin, and guess what happens?

The biggest issue is the proprietary "Megacharger" that Musk mouthed off about. Keep in mind that Tesla hasn't driven theirs semi in two years. Second corporate companies aren't going to deal with the B.S that Musketeers will. Tesla promised in 2016 that ALL of their vehicles were 100% compatible with all future upgrades. Just recently a large percentage were notified that "you need to see a Tesla service center and pay $1500 for the compatible hardware ". Tesla demands money for upgrades
The problem is that companies won't (shouldn't) put up with this. Tesla has stated that the won't support vehicles over 10 years old. Why would any smart company in their right mind even put up with this.

Lol, the world could use a lot more like him, instead we are awash with idiots. Tesla asked me to apply for an engineering job with them 13 years ago but I refused because I was sure they'd go bankrupt. When the Model 3 reached production I realized I was mistaken and bought shares. When I saw him land a rocket backwards I knew we were seeing history being made. Like the T-shirt says, "don't bet against Elon".
