I went to Walmart today to checkout their oil stuff because i read on here that the Supertech stuff is actually pretty decent oil for the price. I was sort of dissapointed to find out that in Canada Walmart sells the oil under the name Tech2000, its made in Canada, and on the bottom of the bottle it said Vulsay. web page
I'm thinking about e-mailing or calling them to find out about the tech2000 oil and other products and where they come from. I was also looking at the oil filters, Walmart Canada only carries Fram and Honeywell Defense, and Pennzoil, garbage, so i'm gonna buy a WIX filter at NAPA.

Whats the story behind the tech 2000 does anyone know?

Tech2000 oil products are from Safety Kleen Canada, a highly reputable automotive chemical company situated in Canada.

I've been an established long fan of Safety-Kleen product user esp. their cleaners and such.

Try doing a search for safety-kleen.

I tried emailing Vulsay a few months ago, never got a response. I hear rumours that the Tech2000 oil made by Safety Kleen is recycled oil. It's probably fine for 3000 mile oil changes, I wouldn't push it must further than that. Walmart also has the Tech2000 synethetic oil for about $5.56 a quart. 4 quarts would come to a bit over 20 bucks, and for that price, you can get a jug a XD-3 0w40, a **** fine oil, and likely one of the best deals on a fully PAO synthetic oil in Canada.

I think the Tech 2000 products are a great value. Wal-Marts in Canada recently started offering an oil chage package using this oil. Regular Penzoil change is $23.97, while a Tech 2000 one is $17.96! If the oil is the same (or possibly better, if you go by the thread on Tech 2000 5W-30 VOA analysis), then you are saving $6.00. I'm planning on using it on my '02 Cavalier, which has to have 6k kilometer changes because of a warranty.

What I was also thinking is if one doubted the value of this oil, you could get a change with it, and use the leftover $6 to get an additive (STP, Bardahl, or the like), then you have a good quality oil, and extra protection, for the price of plain regualr oil...what I'm prolly gonna do....

I have used various grades of Tech2000 as top up oil. I like the wider pour spout of the 1 litre bottles vs most major brands. At $1.67 CDN per litre its not bad at all.

I just bought a litre of Tech2000 5w30 just to be able to top up my next oil change. I bought a 5 quart Jug of Pennzoil which was an sale for around $9 CDN and my capacity is about 6 litres so I needed another litre.

I did consider just buying 6 litres of Tech2000 since I am only going to run it for 1000 miles before draining and filling with 0w40 Esso XD-3 Synthetic ($21 CDN for 4 litres at Wally) and storing for winter. It is a German turbo so I would not tend to use any 5w30 Dino oil long term based purely on the specifics of this engine.

I have also heard that Tech2000 is re-refined, but whether or not it is I think it would be more than adequate for 3000 mile changes in a normally aspirated engine that is not a known Sludge monster.

Buy the XD-3 from the Esso bulk plant. It's cheaper than at Wally World and they also don't charge the environmental fee on each litre at the bulk plant.

All this re-refined stuff comes from the blender being Safety Kleen, who does re-refine oil. If it were re-refined oil it would have to be marked that way on the bottle.

As I've posted before my department has used America's Choice , a product of Safety Kleens , for many years without any real oil related problems.
