tb coolant bypass,3800 "K"

Hi

I plan on using a L26 UIM to replace my L36's plastic manifold.

Since I have to use a TB adapter which has no provision for passing coolant thru to the tb, will this be a problem for winters?

The temps can get to be -20F at night here during Jan.
 
From what I understand, the main purpose of passing coolant through the TB is to keep it the same temperature as the UIM, minimizing problems due to expansion and contraction. Given that, I'd suggest making sure the connection is well sealed (a silicone sealant wouldn't hurt) and keep a close eye on it for leaks during the cooler months. Then just sit back and enjoy.

i worry about leaks from the junction between the adapter (spacer) and the uim.

but should i delete the coolant circulation even to the adapter, is it likely my tb could ice up?
 
Wouldn't do it. Obviously the L26 has a coolant passage right? How hard would it be to add it to the TB adapter?

Any pics?

Not too hard, as far as making a coolant "lip" like the tb has.

If I do this, the coolant will only go as far as the adapter, and hopefully, heat will transfer to the tb through contact.

My only worry now, seems to be the gasket for this to work properly.

BTW, the L26 has coolant passages like the L36. Only the elongation of the plenum neck and the tb mount is different.

another variable, is how this uim will affect fuel economy. he bored the neck out to 70mm around and looks to be a fine job. i may need to test this first with the L36 tb and possible to port the rear to remove some of the oval shape to more resemble the round L26 design.
