Taking opinions on poor mpg issue

I would:

1. replace the O2 sensors
2. clean throttle body and MAF sensor
3. clean fuel injectors
4. replace spark plugs
5. replace air filter

Check average MPG over 5 tanks of 87 gas. 93 octane is wasting your money especially with ethanol.

Drive it on another tank of fuel and see what transpires. Folks here are suggesting some expensive ideas replacing xyz.

Not sure if the car measures MPG or do use the amount of miles driven as methodology?

True, but with 227,000 miles the idea that the O2 and MAF sensors are diminished is really not a stretch. I know it is probably a $300 investment if you DIY but a loss of 15-20% in fuel economy over time will hit that easily. Depends on how long to keep the car.

i have herd that if a bolt or washer is lose it can cause the computer to think it has detonation and turn the timing down. just a thought.
