Von, I am sure that with the BITOG attention you give it, your Generac will serve you well.

BUT, it seems that stories I heard 9 years ago about Generac are playing out. That is, they sold themselves out to Big Box greed, just like Husqvarna did.

Back then, when I was shopping for a workplace generator (I bought Kohler), this is what I was told happened: The Generac Corp. originally set up a distributor sales/service system around the country and these guys invested their business in it. Generac then decided to make their products available at the big box stores and elsewhere at cheaper prices, effectively undermining and cutting the distributors out of the loop. Maybe the distributors should just go along and make money on service, but I imagine they need sales also.

In your case, it seems that the Lowes version is dumbed down with a Briggs engine. People accuse the big box stores of doing this all the time, but I was skeptical that it really happened.

I think John Deere has an agreement that their stores will service JD products from the big box stores, but I also was told that the JD store prices (and "quality") are the same for the identical big box store item. This seems like a better arrangement than what Generac did.

Enjoy your generator. It will be fine.
