"Tainting" new oil by just Drain & Fill ??

I can reach under and open my Fumoto valve and let it drain for however long it takes. When it's done draining, I shut the valve and refill the sump with oil and walk away without any mess, and clean hands.

My total actual time to change the oil, including cleanup, is reduce
With the extra time you spend (possibly to most likely) needlessly changing your filter I'm relaxing or doing other things, like eating a deli sandwich.

So, your thoughts on how mixing a bit of old oil with 4 quarts of brand new may ... age or taint the new.


So do a couple of UOAs and prove him wrong. Until then it's all speculation (we all have our opinions) and it's clear he won't be persuaded.

With that said, personally I do like changing both oil and filter at the same time, but that's mostly habit. I could probably re-use the same filter for a second OCI.



+1. Honda recommends only changing the filter every other change. After the first few changes I'll probably go that route depending upon calendar and OCI length. My Saab was rated 2 years and up to 16k miles, and I never encountered an issue.

I didn't used to do the skip an OCI for the filter on our old Acura integra. But with the new syn filters, and international push to longer OCIs, I'm not concerned.
