grbr95 will be happy to know that I use dino in the Chrysler 2.4L DOHC and the Audi 2.8 12v/SOHC. I stretch his 3-4 months schedule to 6. However, as others have noted, the VW/Audi 1.8T requires synthetic oil, paraticularly since I am only halfway through my 10-year(!) factory powertrain warranty.
mustang cougar...that factory fill means nothing to me. We all know mobil1 is great oil but just because it's in all those mfr's cars doesn't mean everyone should use it. Just because amg puts it in their $100,000 cars doesn't mean i use it in my focus.
speedtc: The point that I was trying to make is that the engineers who designed and built those engines decided, for whatever reason, to go with Mobil over ALL the other manufacturers combined. Certainly there are exceptions (I think BMW uses a special Castrol synthetic...not Syntec...in their Motorsport cars), but time and time again, Mobil 1 comes out on top.
Personally, I like it because it's $4.03/qt, it's available just about anyplace, and it's the standard by which all other synthetic oil manufacturers compare themselves. However, it's also my choice because the engine I run in it (1ZZFE) has many excellent UOA's with this oil. Why mess with a good thing?
BTW: I know this is where Bill in Utah jumps in with another excellent UOA for his Corolla running Aunt Jemima's Maple Syrup and his special "sweat sock in a Coke can" oil filter.
Royal Purple because I think it is a quality synthetic and it is purple. It may turn colors after a while, but, it is purple when I put it in. My wife says if it's the prettiest color it has to be the best.
Why anyone would rate Castrol Syntec (GRPIII) as number one is repugnant. The Europeans were wise in there lubrication nomenclatures to exclude this ploy. Second, when stacked againts the other recomendations domestic Syntec is outclassed. I can not help to wonder if there is the possibilty that Castrol has inserted a mole on this board to incite a PR-Proganda war on there behalf.
It is an apples and oranges comparison in terms of ratings. The choices are bewildering, however I could run any of them in my or your vehicles without any guilt. This is no particular order and choices are best made on engine/fuel/mileage/duty environment and targeted OCI intervals.

Outrun....you are right castrol has sent me here to encite a riot on it's behalf. Every, than outrun for uncovering this whole horrible happening all by himself. Absolute heroism!
Outrun I don't think he's a mole for Castrol. Just another new member that has all the answers and isn't afraid to share their knowledge. Seems to be an epidemic of those lately. My list by the way:
1. Mobil 1 in the 05 Chevy Uplander.
2.Maxlife synthetic in the 96 Blazer.
Your original post makes no sense. How does anybody on here know how you would use them? You've determined that Castrol Syntec is the best synthetic available. Most people here will not agree with you since it usually costs the same or nearly the same as Mobil 1 and is a group 3 as opposed to Mobil 1 which is a PAO.It's
your car, put Castrol in it and be done with it.

The others I would not give a second look no matter what their cost.
