For the record, that is your opinion, its not a fact.

Today's, OLM systems are all more then just mileage counters. They all take driving conditions into account when calculating maintenance.

That is also your opinion, not fact........

Not really. The intelligent oil life monitor is not a "GM exclusive" technology and many Euro marques have been using them for ages.

I would love to find the Pennzoil Gold but can't seem to locate it in my area. I have not tried a direct distributor though.

Motorcraft Blend would be an excellent replacement.... $18 and change for a 5 quart jug at WM.

If you are looking to save a nickel or two on your expensive ride(what, 15 to 20K for the truck), then what can we say? If you are going to do 3k with dino or you could do 6K with M1, then the M1 is cheaper.

Everyone get back to the OP! He will not extend his OCI beyond 4K. He will just not do it. This is what always gets me upset on here he wastes his synthetic oil a 4K, he is asking is it more cost effective to change his oil at 4K and use conventional and would he lose any "protection" by doing so? The answer is no if you are changing your oil at 3-4 please recycle it and buy what ever name brand oil you can get for the least amount of $$$.

I guess I haven't seen as many great UOAs based on other OLMs compared to GM's. I do agree with what you are saying though

Although I did mention throwing away money when changing my full synthetic oil at 4k, money is not really a problem on my 30k truck I bought it brand new last year, I didn't lease it I'm buying the truck and I do intend on keeping it at least ten years, I LOVE IT!
Properly maintaining my vehicle is more important to me than getting the best bang for buck, I just want my truck to last, I know what I bought when I bought it. Come on I fill up once week and it ain't the cheap gas either, my point being I'm not trying to be a cheap [censored], just a guy who believes in regular maintenance.

I believe in regular maint. as well. That's why I do 10K OCIs just like clock work with high quality oils, rotate my tires and keep the PSI correct, change ATF at 35-40K, turkey bater the PS pump and brake fluid every time I change engine oil, etc.

Its not just opinion. Both the 2011+ Ford OLM and 2009+ Chrysler OLM have an algorithm that uses driving conditions to calculate oci. As it sits right now my 2011 5.0 Mustang (8.0 Qt Capacity) is calling for a change in around 16,600 miles. Ford does have a 10,000 mile cap that over rides the algorithm though.

Now if you want to argue GM has more experience with its OLM and that its the most proven OLM then I doubt you will get much argument.

Now an opinion:
I have enough experience with Chrysler to say its not up to GM at least in my application. The Ford 5.0 OLM appears to work as well as the Ecotech GM but its still to early to say for sure.

Back to the topic at hand:

Just use your current M1 and follow the OLM.

The PYB plan would work but you just dont want the hassles with GM if you have a warranty claim.

+1 - Although the "burden of proof" is supposed to be on the manufacturer, in the event of a warranty claim, they can more than make your life miserable in more ways than one.

Why risk it? Use an approved oil (which in this case is a synthetic), but do not change it at 4K, that would be a waste of your money. Unless you test the oil, you cannot say with any certainty whether or not it should be changed or not. Modern engines and oils no longer need a 3-4K OCI; just follow your OLM...
