So are you saying to use a higher viscosity oil? My truck is a Dodge Ram which requires 5w20, If I were to continue to use synthetics should I bump it up to a 10w30, will it be equivalent to a 5w20 conventional?

Find and use a "thick' 5w20. Dodge does not want you to put 30wt in your engine given the extensive cyl mgmt systems in there. Of course Castrol Edge 5w30 could be considered a "thick" 20wt, but you're not ready for syn yet. I would haunt the dodge truck and hemi forums and see what they like.

My tappet noise is louder on Maxlife syn blend 10W-40 versus the Pennzoil Conventional 10w40 that was in it before.

There is some truth to some acoustic properties of various like weight oils of different base stocks (or so we've been led to believe)..but xx.xx cSt is still xx.xx cSt.

Not yet. I'm trying to ride this oil out to 3,000 miles or so. Already about halfway there.

No difference to my ears overall. Although I think I've quieted down ever so slightly in the top end of my car on syn, presumably because its doing some damage control.. (Pennzoil Platinum cleaning up)

That's Currie Enterprises, and who knows what synthetic gear lube turned them off of synthetic gear lubes.
All I know is that I've put a LOT of miles on synthetic gear lubes and have never once had a rear diff failure. My current rear axle has been though 3 manual transmissionns too.
I've got a built Ford 8.8" in my that does great on RedLine 75W-90. Many new cars come factory filled with synthetic gear lubes, are run 150,000+ miles on the factory fill and still usually never have a problem unless they developed a leak at some point.
Simply put, Currie is crazy.

Oh, just that break-in Bologna. You could go faux-syn at 5K then when you hit 10K do a cleanup and Go Amsoil 1x year if appropriate. Being a wimp, I prob do summer-winter 2x/annum OCI's if I was doing long drain intervals. Sells more oil 2

Interestingly, the Mobil 1 0w30 and EP 5w30 makes my engine quiet. But the Mobil 1 5w30 makes the engine quite noisy when the ambient temperature is hot.
THe type of base stock does not matter the hths and additive package are what determines the most. The first time I put a 0W30 in my engine was load I added some additional addtives not viscosity improvers either just aw and ep additives in an ester carrier base and the noise droped in 1/2 almost instantly. Now 2 onces of additive is not enough to drasticly change the viscoity but it was a drastic increase ina dditives. You know what it was not M1 OW30 It was Castrol Syntec 0W30 that I got on clearance at Walmart.
