Switch to High Mileage oil?

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and it is about to roll over 100K. I purchased it used with 36K on it and have always used full synthetic oils in it. Used RP for a long time, but have been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Pennzoil UltraP with a Fram Ultra since discovering BITOG. Wal-Mart has dropped PUP from their shelves here and I have used through what I had stocked up of it. I figured before I stocked up on some Mobil 1 Extended Performance, I would ask if I should consider switching to a High Mileage full synthetic? My truck has never had a major mechanical issue, has zero leaks, and if it consumes any oil it is not noticeable as the oil level never leaves the "Safe" zone on the dipstick. Would there be any benefits to switching or should I just keep doing what I am doing? I've never kept a truck beyond 100K, but after doing some car shopping over the last month and seeing the prices of new and used trucks right now, I am thinking I am going to be riding this one out until the wheels fall off. No car payment is much more fun.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Also, sorry if this topic has been covered a lot. I have tried searching through the pages, myself and using the search function, and I wasn't doing very good.

Thank you. That's what I figured, but thought I would ask before running to town. Will be due for a change after our camping trip this weekend and want to be ready for some fun in the driveway on Monday.

This is something I've considered as well. Now about 84k on my F150. Doing 8-10k OCI I usually top up a total of 2qts over that timeframe but no leaks and no signs of real oil burning (clean exhaust tips, no smoking). I've been tempted to switch to a High Mileage oil as prophylaxis but just can't quite come to it. I figure any cleaning that may be needed should be well addresses using Mobil 1 / Pennzoil Platinum / similar oils and if there are no leaks do I really need any extra seal conditioners beyond API SN levels?

Have had similar thoughts. I always tend to overthink it and dread on the negative "what if's" and if something were to fail could I have prevented it by using the High Mileage oil?
Like you said, though, if there aren't any negative signs from what we're doing now, there really shouldn't be any need to switch as our current oil choices are obviously doing as advertised.

I wouldn't change to high mileage in the Ram, but the Ford needs some type of change... I would not be happy with two quarts usage in 8-10k miles personally. Not sure what you're using but I would definitely try a different oil brand or something a little thicker (maybe HM)... I'm sure some will say that's normal, but seems a lot to me.

That was my thought of going 50/50 High Mileage. I never go High Mileage till I see evidence and then I only go to the point of seeing improvement.I just bought 24qts of Pennzoil Ultra Platium 0w20 and when I see a leak as issue I will go 3 PUP and almost 1 Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5w20 and go from there. I've had a Hyundai run Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum almost religiously and after a seep was discovered did I use a High Mileage additive,LM Motor Oil Saver. After two bouts, I lessened it too half a bottle and made it down to about two teaspoons per oci with no leak. I think all oils have seal conditioners in them, some just need more than other drivers. My 1993 Grand Prix SE ran on Mobil Synblend High Mileage back in mid 2000's bc it had 170000 miles when mom gave it to me . It sweated oil but never leaked it on the ground. If you need High Mileage use it,if not then stay the course. Many cars leak because people dont drive them enough or a bad PVC valve as the major factors to why people run to High Mileage oil.

Thanks all. I'll stick to what I'm doing until something comes up. Now I am just deciding if I want to stick with PUP and order it since it's not on the shelves here anymore or go to Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

A quick question about Mobil 1 Extended Performance. I just realized it does not meet the Chrysler MS-6395 requirements. In fact the only Mobil 1 oil that does is the Mobil 1 SuperSyn. What exactly do these requirements test for and what is Mobil 1 Extended Performance missing to meet the requirements? I'm obviously way beyond all my warranties, but I was surprised to see neither Mobil 1 advanced synthetic oil met Chrysler requirements.

Traditional wisdom had us moving in the direction of High Mileage oils at around 100,000. But motors have become more durable as EFI has changed the nature of fuel wash. So engines do not wear at the same rate as they used to with carburetors ...

If it's acting right and not leaking or weeping, you can hold off to 150,000 or there abouts. At some point age and heat cycles are starting to harden gaskets and seals, so treating them slowly with High Mileage oil to keep them soft and supple is not a bad thing. It's just when you think it needs doing in the life of your engine

I've thought about doing a blend of PP and Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage. Buy the 5qt jug of PP and then 2 qt of the Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage. Kind of do the slow treatment like you mentioned. That shouldn't be a problem to mix the two, correct?
