So last night about 930ish I'm outside spraying wasp nests in my backyard when I see my neighbors that live in a known drug house perusing the fence next to my yard. Their house is caddy corner to mine so they were in another neighbors yard. As soon as I got to the corner that they were in, it was two girls seemingly acting as lookouts for a guy that came walking around my front yard, I looked up and said "Hey I didn't see you there, you startled me" and one of them said "I'm out here looking for my ID" just as she said that loudly a guy came walking through my front yard into the back yard of another neighbors then into their yard not making eye contact or saying a thing. I thought that was odd as why would someone be out in a yard looking for an ID when they shouldn't have been in the neighbors yard in the first place. Well I played dumb to see if I could catch on to what they were doing. I come out about an hour later to "tinker" with my ac condensor outside and they're still there. They told me one of them is on probation and they both just got back in town. Said their house was robbed while they were gone and wanted to know if I had seen anything in particular. I said "no" and they said their house has been hit 4 times and one down the road has been hit twice so the people moved out. I am cleaning out that corner of my yard asap, installing motion sensor flood lights over there, and have my 80lb dog on free roam inside the house now in case they decide to visit while I'm not home. I have also called the cops and they put my house on house watch, and I will be alerting both neighbors next to me of what is going on also. Is there any other tips, ideas, suggestions? And yes I am working on getting a firearm and plan to exercise the castle doctrine if need be.

One suggestion given to me was to put out an infared hunting camera that will take pictures without setting off a flash to see who is moving through that area

Bass Pro has one that takes IR images at night and can take pictures or videos for $130. It has a camo housing, but the neighbors are probably watching you as much as you are watching them. You'll need to be discreet about where you put the camera and when you take the SD card out of it.

IR camera is a great idea. Dogs are also nice for a variety of reasons. You should definetaly invest in some home protection, if ever you have to defend yourself/family. Other than that, put up some signs of an alarm company that are very very visible. Good deterent.

Clearly seems as if they were "fishing" to see what who would notice their activity and the reaction to it, these people are not the brightest bulbs BUT their zombie like drug addiction drives them to be quite diabolically clever. They are testing you and your other NORMAL neighbors.

I hate to cause you fear, but they might be looking to steal your AC condenser for the copper!

I agree about another huge vicious dog, that WILL bite and hard, and the IR camera, also be willing to start having a firearm handy in your home where you can access it quickly without the fear of a criminal invader figuring out where you keep it. I would also start carrying in your car as well so that when you come home you will be prepared if you encounter an intruder in your home.

+ 1, but a 100 lb dog may be too small.
There is no more protective dog than a Great Pyrenees.
An adult male goes over 120 lbs.
Ours weighed 140 lbs, and he was not at all fat.
Also, there is nothing more impressive than the bark of a Pyrenees, especially when he's bouncing off a door to get at an intruder outside.
A large dog beats either a video system or a gun, since a video system will only show images of your house being broken into, while a gun only works if you're there to use it.
A dog will take care of his house at all times.

Its hard to beat a good dog and Video system, Please remember we pay our homeowners insurance to replace the "STUFF" that a thief may take, there is nothing in your home thats more valuable than your own life (minus children) Owning firearms is a 2nd amendment right that i encourage, but remember firearms are for protection not attack.. when you forget that you become the criminal.. atleast in some states.. best of luck, get a dog.. a big dog..

Get a well trained German Shepherd schutzhund.

They will treat you and anything you have as a king, and your house as your territory. If anyone enters they will kill them first and than bark.

Once you get your gun you need to practice with it as much as possible until you your limitations with it very well. Make sure everyone (including the dog) knows you have it and is familiar with the sounds it makes and what they mean.

Yes!

I always wonder about lights. If nobody is around to see the peeps, does the light just make their job easier?

Definitely arm yourself. Protect you, your family, and your property. If you don`t have it,get your CHL. Keep a concealed handgun on you and keep a firearm in a safe place in your home.

The big dog must also be ready to be vicious and possibly deadly IF an intruder invades your home or trespasses.

The jig is UP with these zombie drug criminals, if enough of them are devoured and attacked with serious or lethal injuries for invading other's homes the plague will become much less of a problem.

The thing is they must have a good conditioning that to break and enter is in fact "likely deadly".
