Going to be doing struts, mounts and UCA's on the F150 soon. Definitely over thinking it but while stuff is apart and new stuff is going in gotta decide if the new is going to be sprayed with Cosmoline RP342 or top-coated with rustoleum spray paint. Thoughts on what would be best in the salty rust belt here? I'm leaning towards the cosmoline just for easy and still much better than nothing.

That stuff is up out of most of the salt spray. I would do nothing or a topcoat of paint. Cosmoline is going to attract dirt.

Spray paint & wash those parts at least once in a while. Recoat paint 5-7 years. Even the nuts can cause a very serious condition so props to you for wanting to do something about it.

Driver side is the worst for rust. Here's my F-350 upper ball joint/spindle nut completely rusted. I happened to take my wheel off & seen it. I began to easily pluck off the nut chunks. I bought this truck used back in 2020 & although they took really good care of the interior they never washed the undercarriage anywhere at anytime. Yes, I replaced that nut ASAP.

Make sure the cotter pin stays in, would hate for that nut to back off on its own.

Wowzer, that’s quite crusty.

That nut ain't turnin', it fell apart 😅

The pin just broke off with my finger. Replaced with a brand new Ford nut w/cotter pin. I was replacing the glow plugs & noticed it. Wife & I scraped off all the surface rust on the frame & I sprayed primer/paint on the whole thing. The frame was not completely rusted through by any means but it was bad enough.
