Is that also not an American company? means a lot to some.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Toyota Tundra has the highest U.S. parts content of any pickup, at 80 percent. The Camry has more U.S. parts than an F150.

The buy American argument only goes so far with me when Ford, GM, and other American companies have many of their cars made in Mexico and other places.

And this has what at all to do with oil?

Think about it a second

I am not going to think about anything, this thread is about oil brands and why you like them.

I never said I wont use castrol all I said its at the bottom of my list because its not a american owned company. I have used Castrol alot. I just prefer the other two for the reason I stated in my original post.

You used an argument about cars and not oil. It is my beleifs like it or not and I am not forcing it upon anyone here. I stated my reason for each oil I posted.

I know castrol produces alot of its oil here in the USA, but its a foreign company.

Im done, this thread is about what oil you like and WHY you like those oils. Not about how GM and Ford manufacture thier cars in mexico. Or how some toyota has more american parts than a big 3.

+100000000000!!
I'm tired of GM hiding behind being an "American" company, but building cars and trucks elsewhere. (not to mention that they make an inferior product and charge a riduculous price.)
My Camry was built in Georgetown, KY by AMERICANS. My friends Silverado was made in MEXICO. Sorry for the rant.

Anyway, favorite oils are as follows.

PYB: Robust dino, great price.

PP: Great UOA's, and it keeps my Windstar's engine spotless.

Rotella: Very Robust oil for Diesels, and Small engines.

Rotella T Syn: Very Robust as well. A go in anything oil.
Plus nothing makes my generator run so smooth.

Yes I know that all my oils are owned by a dutch company.
and no I wasn't trying to step on any GM owners toes.

Back on topic:

For my Disco:

Shell Rotella 5w-40 because it is a synthetic HDEO that can be run in the winters here and is available everywhere.

Shell Rotella 15w-40 because you can buy it in 5 gallon buckets.

Mobil 1 15w-50 because it is available for $22/5 gallons. Is a "real" synthetic and has 1300/1200 ppm Zn/P.

For my corolla:

PP 5w-30 because its cheap

GC 0W-30 because it is overkill.

Amsoil for synthetic. Their lower end XL line is a good comprimise.

Kendall GT1 blend.... not sure why, I just like it. Good price, works well, good cold flow.

Havoline/ Castrol GTX are my dino picks.

Valv. Maxlife, kept two of my severely beaten vehicles going well over 250k and one over 300k.

Pennzoil HM because it's working great(slowed leaks/consumption) in my Topaz.

Motorcraft, great oil/great price.

Pennzoil YB is about all my mom ever uses and has never had any lube related damage to her vehicles,i've used it a few times and have no complaints.

I was always partial to Havoline (old formula) because it was a good oil and could usually be found on sale for 99 cents per quart. When Havoline changed to the DS formula, I started looking at other dino options. The one vehicle still uses dino and when I use up my current stash of old formula Havoline, I will probably use TropArctic or Mobil 5000.

In the wife's van, we use Pennz Platinum. A very good oil at an affordable price. It reduced oil consumption (compared to dino oil) and gives me confidence that it will hold up for a 5k oci under our severe driving conditions (short trips, sub freezing temps).

1. Valvoline Maxlife...probably the most frequently used oil in my Volvo. I like it because its affordable & works as advertised.

2. Castrol GTX bulk 5w30...because we sell it at my work and its very inexpensive & convenient for me to purchase.

3.Citgo Supergard Syn. Blend 5w30...my latest bargain at local grocery stores. My 1st UOA on this stuff is pending the next OCI.

1. Red Line 5W-30, never experienced anything like it
2. Pennzoil Platinum, always did a bit better than M1 in my vehicles and it's relatively cheap at Wal Mart
3. Havoline, group II+ and still has plenty of moly

Price independent: Castrol Edge. With a claimed 8 times better wear protection than Mobil 1, you can't go wrong.

Price dependant: Valvoline SynPower, Pennzoil Platinum or even Castrol Edge, depending on the current sales and rebates.

Mobil 1 was my de facto oil for any car I cared about, until reading about UOAs here. However, I never had any oil related issues with any of my cars. Except maybe my '93 LT1 Corvette, which needed new piston rings after that stint in Germany!

You need to do some MORE reading about UOA's then. Start reading Doug's article. It is linked from the main page, in the "past articles" section now.

Boutique Synthetic Oils = Royal Purple & Redline( IMO the 2 best oils on the market period )

Name Brand Synthetic Oils = Kendall GT1 & Penzoil Platinum( very good name brand, readily available, and affordable oils ).

Conventional Oils = Castrol GTX & Valvoline( what I have used and they have done well ).

+1

Judging an oil by wear numbers via a $30 UOA can be highly misleading.

I wonder : that Corvette that needed the rings, after using Mobil 1, if a UOA had been done would Doug ever written that world famous article? And why does his article come up so much during a Mobil 1 discussion? I never see the reference given with other great oils like Napa syn. or Wally World store brand etc. How about Auto Zone store brand? I could go on but the World Series is about to start.

-Valvoline VR1 20w-50
-Valvoline Synthetic 5w-30

I use the Synthetic during winter for the colder times

I run the Vr1 for its claimed added zinc content and I run Valvoline Syntec 5-30 during colder times(like 3 months of the year)

I have no idea how wise my decisions are on oil. I've switched to valvoline pretty much now, for probably no other reason then to just be different then most other people. I wonder how good the valvoline synthetic is for my flat tappet, solid lifter engine......
