O'Reilly Syntec boxed vs quart/jug oil - Bonus SDS confusion

OK, so it's somewhat common knowledge that Syntec by O'Reilly is made by Castrol/BP.

But, there are a couple things I find really interesting. If you go to the O'Reilly SDS portal (you can go to oreillyauto.com and then scroll to the bottom and click on SDS), I noticed two things that I found interesting.

1. While the quart and 5-quart jugs are listed as BP (Castrol), the 3G (three gallon boxes) are listed as Omni products which is who makes the regular (non-Syntec) O'Reilly oil, and if you search up "Xtra Rev" on your favorite search engine the phone number on the Xtra Rev site is Omni's. So that would lead me to the following conclusion - If you buy Syntec in a BOX, you get Omni oil, while if you buy it in a QUART or JUG you get Castrol oil.

2. The SDS for Syntec 0W-40 shows Castrol Edge 0W-30, which would imply they are identical products. So if you wanted Edge 0W-30 and a good oil filter you could get a sweet deal on it with the Syntec 5-Quarts + MicroGard Select filter promo? Or are they simply reusing the SDS as the one for Edge 0W-30 and Syntec 0W-40 are close enough, because there must be some difference between a 0W-30 and a 0W-40... or maybe not?

Is it possible for SDS to be straight up incorrect, or my assumptions here true?

Mistakes certainly happen on SDS. I find it pretty unusual that the 0W-40 and 0W-30 get past their review. It's clearly a mistake and not the same oil (since the viscosities are different). It could be as simple as "Save copy as...." and the author forgot to edit everything. As far as hazardous components, there will be no difference in (2) different viscosity oils. Not much else either - just product ID, description, etc.

To make one higher (or lower) viscosity, I'm 99% certain you just add more or less of some component.

as far i know its blended by Omni specialty packaging,(i think it was in past made by Castrol),,its a good oil though worth considering.

In my experience with SDS documents, I would say it would be quite a feat to be able to discern an oil weight, or really any specific makeup chemistry, from their context. This is to say that an SDS for a 0W20 or a 0W30 of the same brand are likely to be identical.

Nothing wrong with either blender, have used both in the past. Only issue I have is the price. Just way too expensive considering everything else out there. Even on "sale" just no.....still too high.
