Supertech and other value point oils

It is very comprehensive and honest report, not much opinion and speculation.
Kirkland, Supertech are suplied by Warren AFAIK.

In Lakes boutique shoot out he mentioned the Napa synthetic only beat out Redline at 14 ppm wear metals. The other oils performed much better. The wear was never really the concern with cheap oils, it’s always been engine/piston cleanliness. used oil analysis don’t show how clean an engine is unfortunately. Warren oils work great in the right engines/conditions. Knowing your engine/conditions is important in choosing an oil.

The cleanliness and wear are often have the same trend. Engine oil Burning rate and cleanliness are probably even more correlated negatively.
Varnish level and wear (piston rings) are correlated.

I'm sure Supertech oil works great in some engines while may not in others.
From personal experience where both our Kia cars call for SM oil, I tried ST and Kirkland SN in 5W-30 in both engines and they both started burning oil, both oils that are basically same oil.
I never bought those oils again. Pennzoil Platinum was the oil the engines saw majority of their lives but then I learned about and switched to Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX and Mobil 1 ESP. Experimenting with different oil brands and mileage on GDI engine may have resulted as the reason it burns a bit now, it was using about a quart per OCI in the past and before first OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect. Then it dropped to about 1/3qt per OCI. I'm running Valvoline Restore and Protect now again and will do at least another OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect right after. Engine now has 195K km on it.

My Nissan Altima 2002 burn oil at the same rate with Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1 or Supertech. The newer Toyotas I have been driving do not burn oil even beyond 200k miles using Supertech, Napa, Kirkland, Mobil 1, or Castrol whatever were in discount with rebates. On my Corolla hybrid, I have been using VW original oil 0W-20, Ravenol VSE, to cheapest Mannol and none burn oil either. Still, my sample is not enough compared to 10 000 used oil analysis Speed diagnostic has.
