Supertech and other value point oils

I regularly see on here that basically it seems that brand doesn’t matter as long as an oil meets specs. I’m sure to a certain extent this is true, however, the extra $$ does buy you something. Bought Supertech 0w20 synthetic (10k mile low-rent variety) to do an oil change on a rental vehicle I am using for the next week. Im going to tell you, that stuff is more acrid smelling than any Valvoline Extended Protection or Mobil 1 I use on my own vehicles. It smells noticeably less refined. If anyone doesn’t believe me check it out for yourself.
What the extra money gets you is marketing and advertisement. I don't sniff drained oil, so I cannot comment.

I knew people were sniffing cvt fluid and fuel cleaning bottles with PEA, but are we on to oil now or has this been a trend i didn't get the invitation to? 🤣

Yes nothing like the smell of well cooked gear oil as it runs down your arm! The oil fragrance like a fine wine! Is something to be appreciated.
Not to mention getting that smell off. I've scrubbed skin raw on some really cooked gear oil to finally get the smell to go away.

Definitely true if your talking about API Royal Purple Dexos label. There is something distinctive with M1 EP and VRP that gathers in a heavier amount of coin. Step into the boutique arena and you get more options, more price and more benefits for the discriminating operators.
Its a Smith & Wesson vs Staccato debate essentially.

The worst smelling thing I've ever dealt with was back in my aviation days. There's nothing quite like the heady bouquet of MIL-5606 hydraulic fluid that's been cooking inside of a heavily-used landing gear strut for the last 5 years.

And I thought a max-capacity diaper was bad...

It's made from re-refined base oil.

Anyone who had a supercharged 3.8 Grand Prix and changed their supercharger oil would remember how awful that fluid smelled too 😳

Sorry I don’t believe a word you wrote. That’s YOUR OPIJION. My vote goes to HPL cause I’m stocked up for least 10 years. Why: cause I can afford a quality oil; regardless if it smells like unicorn tears or berries.
