Hello gentlemen, and first of all, let me thank everyone for the support and help and advice after my uncles passing. Other uncle; we dont know how much time he has, as brother, and my nephew(new to me nephew) saw him other night back home. Anyways, anyone here use the ST syn in any grade? One of my co workers uses the ST syn in his 97' I believe hatchback GEO METRO without problems. Has over 197k on it, without any issues. I thought bout using it in my 98' silverado with the 4.8 v-8, may just stick with my 6500 oci in both trucks with ST conventional 5w30. Let me know what you guys think, and thank you in advance.

I wouldn't suggest a 6k OCI on ST unless you have UOA's to back it up and all highway driving.

Hello Brenden yeah, my commute is all highway 6 days a week. No problems in either of my trucks yet, and been using it since 02' as neighbor that I mentioned with 94' toyota truck had a 98' toyota 4x4 tacoma, with 200k on it, he gave to his son, still running good. Both trucks use/d ST 5w30 thats all.

I've been "window shopping" in Walmart lately, and I see that the price of oil has gone through the roof. I see that "dino" ST has the best price, and the Synthetic ST has the best price for synthetics. Although I still have some Mobil-1 and some QS that is rated as SM, I see that both the above mentioned ST are rated SN. Will the Synthetic ST go the full 7500 miles? Should I buy a couple 5 qt jugs?

Yeah ctrcbob, the ST oil here is $12.78 a 5qt jug, and syn ST is like $20.98 I believe last time I saw it. I dont think I have a prob doin what I am doin in my trucks honestly.

Yep, ST SYN is good oil but for the money Quaker State UD is the better deal.

Because both will work the same. I never understood why people think WM is going force Warren to make a cheaper product....big contract or not- Warren does not want to taint their rep in the market place, which would be near instant death for their sales in the consumer oil market. Like the Peak syn, it's not the best, but should have no problems going 6k with that commute....

I didn't read the "syn" acronym after it, so I retract the previous statement I would the ST Syn at a 6k interval, not the conventional, but at the 20 dollar price they charge for the syn, you might as well use QSUD or PP for a dollar or two more.

I think that ST is a fine product, currently. However, in response to daves87rs, WM seems to have given more than one manufacturer the option to either cut corners or lose their contract renewal.

Granted prices are different in other stores, but I don't see the point of using ST. At my local WM ST synthetic costs $21.48 for five quarts while Pennzoil Platinum is $18.75 and Ultra is $22. M1 AFE in a better grade is only $23. ST synthetic is only 5W-30 while I can get 0W-30 AFE.

While true, I don't think these companies will be quaking in their boots either, since WM is starting to lose it's superpower status.... In many case they could even be someone else's house brand, like Meijer, who is shopping that contract right now. Target is also considering their own house brand as well....

I guess its safe to say I can use ST syn in my vehicles. I cant see paying more for something else also. PP in any grade at my wal mart is like $24.

You can use it, I have plenty of times and no issues for up to about 6500 miles. I also agree PP is not the same price, it is about $4 plus more. Only the QSUD that is comparable in price to ST synthetic.

Thank you both gentlemen for the replies. I dont see any reason why I couldnt go 6500 on it.
