My daughter's 2015 Mazda CX-5 with the 2.5L 4cyl. I wouldn't mind a longer filter like the 7317 but I don't think it would fit under the splash shield. And props to Mazda for the little cover that comes off to expose the drain plug and oil filter so you don't have to remove the entire shield.

ST6607 & QS FS 0W-20 out
MP6607 & Quaker State Full Synthetic 5w20 in because no 0W-20

As was stated by someone on the MP7317 C&P there seems to be no difference with this ST except the color of the ADBV. The media glue joint is fine, media fine, can't pull the cartridge apart and I really tried on this one. I used the ST last change because there was no TG or MP but this looks good to me.

Looks well built, but wonder if the metal-on-metal "seal" at the leaf spring-to-end cap effects the efficiency some. Pretty hard to get a perfect seal there without a non-metal gasket like the Ultra uses.

Nice photos. I really like the plastic cage style center tube.

I know for sure the 7317 fits on a 2017 CX-5 cause I change the oil for my daughter in law and plastic door fits on just fine.

Good question. I fished it out of the garbage can, took it in the garage turned out the lights and shined a powerful flashlight up from the bottom. I could see a hint of light at one spot but I really tugged on it trying to tear it apart and the spring was tweaked slightly. Since it's under tension in the can I'd think any seepage would be minimal. I do have 2 of these in service, if I remember next OCI I'll check them for tightness of fit.

Looks good. What went back in and on?

Thank You

I know this is an older thread, but according to the supertech oil filter fit guide, the ST6607 does not fit this vehicle. I know thats bum info, because all 6607's fit Mazda vehicles (FRAM part number.) Must be an error. I tried my wifes 2024 CX-5 and even punched in a 22 and a 23. Nope. Says doesn't fit. Click "what fits" button and all kinds of 6607 filters show up.....

I've used several of these ST 6607's on our 2021 CX-30 2.5 NA without a single issue. I've also used the ST 7317 oversized version and the 'little cover' goes back on without an issue.
I agree with the OP on 'kudos' to Mazda for making it easier to do an OC by having this access panel so the entire splash shield doesn't need to come off as it does on our Fords.

Not just Ford. Current Nissan one must remove entire "engine protector" by removing ~19 plastic push pin clips and 2 bolts (or more) to access the filter and drain plug. Terrible design. If interested (I'm not), it would be a deal breaker for me.

As for WM listing, I wouldn't take it as an entirely authoritative filter look up reference. Likely an omission error on topic application.

My sons 2014 Kia Rio has the splash guard under the whole bottom of engine compartment. Not access panels. Have to take it all off. Like 9 or 10 screws. PIA.....

My Nissan requires removing 8 or 9 bolts to drop the plastic guard to access the filter. The next time I remove it I’m going to cut out an access panel and rig up some sort of reattachment scheme for the flap.

I use the 6607 size filters in my Mazda.
