Hey Guys,

Getting ready to start a regimen of draining and filling the 3qts of ATF I can get from the pan of my 4Runner every 20k. Toyota WS is not very highly regarded and aftermarket options are few and far between.

How does the Super Tech hold up? Thinking specifilcly about shear and heat stability compared to the WS. Im aware that Valvoline Maxlife is also an option...but the Super Tech is nicely priced and just like the Valvoline its recommended as a replacement by the aft manufacturer.

That supertech is $6.50/qt

Thats what I was thinking, plus a lot of real world experience posted with the MaxLife ATF in WS transmissions.

I have Maxlife in my Scion right now (and in my F150, and will be in my Hyundai soon).

Maxlife is the best choice! It is very popular on here and avaialble a a great price

Another good choice is Castrol Full Synthetic ATF. It often goes on sale for $5/qt at the parts stores, although it is not on sale right now.

Maxlife is the way to go. I have used it in a multitude of applications with great results.

I am going to use Idemitsu WS equivalent in our GS350 F Sport.
I have used MaxLife in a number of vehicles with great results. Good stuff.

I really don't think there's anything wrong with WS, I did a WS exchange in my RX (14qts used) at 50k and will do a drain and fill every 30-40k from now on with WS. I know it gets a bad rep here, but I had it in my 4runner for 100k and while it tends to discolor, that doesn't necessarily mean it's terrible.

My thoughts were I don't have to question whether it's compatible or not, many WS transmissions go 200k+
On the FF. Even every 20k it's a minimal difference in cost

There are a lot of idiotss on this forum who claim to be specialists in BOTH mechanical engineering and fluid engineering spilling their useless knowledge out here. If our never st in this forum and heard all the bad recommendations given, my gut tells me you would use OEM fluid.

OEM fluid is the way to go...

another thing is a hot 3qt is different than a cold 3qt, and you might want to check if yours has a leveling tube (2 drain plugs on pan) if so you need to understand how that all works IMO.

WS is a Dexron based nothing special.

I too use Toyota OEM fluids even though MaxLife, et al has a good record in these applications. The cost really isn't much and unless it's a severe use case(taxi/Uber/Lyft), a "synthetic" COTS fluid has marginal differences.

I'm leery of universal fluids for some applications and MaxLife isn't the panacea to solve all ATF needs. Although I will say I've had luck with Castrol IMV for a T-IV application and I did like how MaxLife initially felt in my parent's van but there was a bit of a "flutter" that wasn't there with the OEM stuff.
