Here at the shop we rebuild engines but sometimes we have to remove a transmission here and there so i sent my cousin to pick up 3 cases of dexron/Mercon 3 and atf+4 well he brought back super tech from wal mart. How is this stuff especially for the atf+4 for the chryslers they are sometimes picky! This atf+4 from wal mart super tech seems thin to me.
Should i just not take any chances and get the valvoline? I think this question was answered a while back but i dont remember so bear with me.

Super Tech ATF+4 is as good as other brands ATF+4, but your customer(s) may not like it when you write down Walmart Super Tech ATF+4 on the bill.

I've used SuperTech Mercon V in a high-mileage (170,000) 4R70W with no issues. I would have to assume their ATF+4 flavour is of similar quality.

ALL ATF+4 is the same!

You see, ATF+4 isn't jsut a spec. Chrysler not only stipulates the exact formula, they also stipulate where you can buy the components from. A specific group III oil from Shell, SK, or Petro-Canada. Only one add pack, from Lubrizol, is approved.

Therefore, all of the licensed ATF+4 that appears on the list linked in an earlier post in the thread, is the same.

Walmart ATF+4 is on the list.

Yup - it's licensed and therefore of assured quality.

OTOH - that license spec is about 15 years old now? ... it may have been leading edge back in the day, but it's long been usurped by other products. Not that makes it a bad choice, but let's not give it an overdue sense of praise.

And as I've pointed out before, there are other company specs which are just as robust if not more so, such as some of Allison's TES licenses.

To the core of the question, because the ATF+4 spec is very tight, any product, including Wally's lube, is assured of being what Chrysler intended.
