Hopefully most of us are blessed with the opportunity to take one...here are some shots from mine. Our first 2 week vacation - longest I have ever taken in my adult life...or all my life really. We spent our time in SW and central Colorado. Hiked two 14'ers, visited Mesa Verde, and the Black Canyon...my son caught some trout (8 total)...memories to last a lifetime!

Glad you're back already..... My parents always used to like taking us on vacation during the very last week before school started, so normally there would be at most one or two days after we got back before we headed off to school. It really killed any fun element of the vacation and made each day seem like the doomsday countdown!

Ice lake (second pic in this set) was my favorite hike this year...9 miles up to 12,500 feet...that water is just unreal color (no pics were edited at all for this)
You have to be in great shape to hike 9 miles with the low oxygen and coming from the flat lands.

Open carry is not allowed everywhere here.
But it's easy to get a concealed carry permit.
What does pot have to do with it?

I have an Iowa CC permit, and reciprocity with CO. I used to carry when hiking the mountains, but now just carry bear spray. More effective from what I have learned, and less to deal with if I need to use it.

I was just going to ask if you had some type of defense going into the mountains here.
You would be surprised at how many people carry nothing.
Good for you.

Nice work turning his vacation thread into a carry debate. (n)

We love the SW corner of Colorado and have been the places listed. In 2 weeks for something different we're going to Albuquerque then north along the front range and may end up in Wyoming.

Great trip DriveHard and great memories. In 20 years you'll be surprised what kids remember best, it won't match yours.

Glad you enjoyed it, Colorado really is a beautiful state.

I was out in Eastern Iowa where I'm from, visiting family last week and my daughter and grand kids came along with me. We did stuff you can't do it CO like ride a boat into a cave, see a really big river (we have very small rivers in comparison), and visit a museum with a retired steam powered dredge. Not sure who was more excited about that, me or my 11 yo grandson. Ran out of time or I would have taken them up to get a good view of the locks in action. Also took them to get a glimpse of the Amish and Mennonite on the way to get some treats in Kalona, showed them a giant strawberry, and spent time (and money) in the Amana Colonies.

Thanks for visiting Iowa! It is a great place to live and raise a family!

This is not the place to be debating firearm or drug policy. Off Topic posts, and ensuing debate, will be deleted.

Next time hit up hanging lake. The hike is intense but the scenery is spectacular. It's a little off the beaten path so it's well worth it.
