Suggestions for mattress

I have been through quite a few beds the past 10 years or so because of my back... Traditional inner spring (soft and then exchanged for medium), 100% memory foam mattress, then a "Classic" Saatva luxury firm inner spring has been my latest, plus the use of toppers here and there when needed. Recently, the Saatva was starting to develop a sag where I sleep after the 5 or 6 years I've had it, so it was time to look for another... Plus, back pain was setting in due to the mattress...

Just a few months ago I went and bought a 10" deep Organic 100% latex foam mattress from sleepez... It's a Cali-King and it has (3) 3" layers customizable to different firmness depending on weight, how you sleep, etc... You can then mix/match or swap out layers to dial in your preferred firmness.

For example, the girlfriend's side is firm dunlop latex base, medium dunlop latex middle and soft talalay latex top. While mine is the same base and middle, except a medium talalay top to give more support for my weight. It feels perfect! You can swap the dunlop with the talalay to firm things up more, or even place the firm in a different spot to adjust the feel. They allow you to swap/exchange layers if need be if it ends up not being firm/soft enough for you. But using the tool on their website, what they estimated for us works perfectly.

Latex foam is worlds better than memory foam, for me. You don't sink in it and feels much more traditional like a normal bed. It has a bounciness, you don't just sink in and the edge support is suprising (you can sleep on the very edge just fine if you need).

My back has been feeling great and we are sleeping better than we have in a LONG time. Big thumbs up from us... Finally found a bed we love!

A mattress is one of those things you shouldn't skimp out on. You spend ~1/3rd of your life in a bed. Make it a comfortable one.

We have a Saatva Lineal split king double adjustable bed. I can adjust it to take the load off my back and being able to elevate my head has helped with my sleep apnea.

Hi All,

I I'm looking for a comfortable mattress suggestions but not looking to break the bank. I as a last minute decided to look at my local Sleep Number place, and WHOA!!!. If I.were Bill Gates maybe I'd drop $5250 American on a mattress but not as a.regular class working person. Their $899 mattress wasnt even as comfortable as my $150 memory foam bamboo Walmart special. I'm looking for BITOG suggestions. Thanks

Its best that you and your wife shop for one that both of you will like.

My wife and I have been through two mattresses since we were married (16 years). One got the sag, the other (that we bought with the warranty money from the first) just became uncomfortable for some reason. Our bed is a king.

The last four months we were sleeping on my ca. 2002 King Koil queen which is very comfortable. It is big enough, but we have the high base for the king.

About three weeks ago we took delivery of a mid-line sleep number bed. It was a $4k model on special I. King size. It is very comfortable and we like it a lot. The two different firmness settings works well for us.

Breaks the bank? Yeah a little. They gave us 0% for like 4 years, and we took it because why not.

If we needed a new foundation and all sorts of stuff it would have been really crazy money. But so far it’s worth it.

ALDI matress in a box has been wonderful a few times (replaced due to familial issues, not quality or comfort).

What do you consider "comfortable" ? Sure, a soft, plush mattress that you sink into and get cozy is really, really comfortable but your body (back) will regret it. We only buy FIRM mattresses and even my wife has been converted into understanding that a firmer mattress is better for you.

That said, do you have IKEA around ? All of our mattresses are from there.

Cool I'll definitely check out Ikea. Didn't think about that.

I prefer Latex Foam. It is really hard to find a good latex mattress now. Most are just cheap foam with a 1 or 2 inch latex topper. Quality latex lasts 50 years, and never sags. It is stupidly heavy though.

In aircraft, we use a product called DAX foam. That stuff is amazing, it's fireproof and lasts forever. Always wanted to make a mattress with it.
