The short version is that EVs are part of a broad suite of tools and policies aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases at a national level, across all sectors of the economy. They are obviously not the answer on their own, but neither are all of the others things being done.

Whether or not they are more expensive or cheaper, or more or less "convenient" is frankly irrelevant and ignoring the big picture. Emissions need to come down - if you try to get bogged down in "consumer preferences" or whether or not you "like" them then you've basically already lost the argument.

They are not perfect, and may not be for quite a while. But they are step in the right direction and all efforts and incentives should be used to transition as much of the fleet as possible asap.

Ford has decided to repurpose an Ontario production plant it had originally intended to use solely for electric vehicles. Do not shoot the messenger.

A significant percentage of the American people do not appreciate being compelled or coerced. Electric vehicles may have a role in certain use scenarios, but I don’t think anyone who is well informed or intelligent believes the reality is equivalent to the hype with respect to range, their environmental benefit, durability (battery longevity?), or practicalities (e.g., the grid itself and powering that grid).

Ford and GM will learn this lesson the hard way. GM should have been allowed to go bankrupt. The valuable IP (e.g. the Chevrolet brand) and the assets would have been purchased and the role of the unions and other government benefactors would have been wiped out. Instead we have a car company and CEO that is trying to foist electrics on the buying public, at the behest of the government, while it sells gigantic pick up trucks and SUVs to finance the boondoggle.

Ford is slightly better as they financed themselves during the crisis by drawing down all their liquidity too. But they are now in a similar position of having few gasoline vehicles outside of large SUVs and trucks, while they try to shove
Electrics down our throats. Who needs an electric pick up truck that when hooked up to a trailer barely has enough range to go to the grocery store and back? I get that many trucks are not consistently used for towing, but when they are, you want the range. No thanks.

Meanwhile, Toyota, the company that came up with hybrids on its own, continues to chug along with a balanced approach, demonstrating what happens when free minds and free markets can evolve instead of being compelled by pinheads in DC. Traveling for work this week have a camry hybrid rental. Great car. Great mileage. Built by Americans in Kentucky. No plugs to worry about. Gets mid 40s mpg. Tempted to buy one.

Have a good day everyone.

I agree that we do need to create a path to reduced carbon emissions and EVs can be a part of that effort.
Hybrids can also help in this effort by reducing emissions through lower fuel consumption while requiring no new infrastructure of any kind. Nobody is having anything shoved down their throats at the moment, but we should all at least recognize the actual CO2 emissions impacts of the transportation choices we make.
To make arguments based upon what others are doing, even other countries, is no more than an effort to deny personal responsibility. We all want autonomy in our actions, but with that has to come personal responsibility. Merely denying that we have a problem is not an informed response.
Much has been written about the evils of tax subsidizes for EV purchasers used to promote EV sales. Those who decry this should also consider the enormous direct and indirect subsidies heaped upon producers, transporters and refiners of transportation fuels over the past century or so.

We're done here ...
On this one page along I've had to delete posts for profanity, politics and trolling comments.
If you cannot behave, it gets shut down; simple as that.
