Car is a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It has rear disc brakes.

Anyway, the car's rear brakes make a groaning / grinding sound when slowing down at about 5mph down to 0. The pads are less than a year old and should have plenty of pad still left. Same pads on the front are quiet.

The brake pads are Autozone Duralast Gold Semi-Metallics. Sound like a serious issue?

just because it is only a yea old doesn't mean it isn't wearing out ...take the whell off and check it out..you could have a caliper that it hanging up that has caused premature wear ..better check it before the rotot gets worn down too.

In my experiences with AZ shoes and pads, I'd dump them and go with OEM or Bendix. My AZ pads squeak like crazy and my rear shoes growl and chatter at low speeds. They're coming off ASAP.
