STP, WalMart, and Bosch filters...

I've got a question about a few filters:

STP-2808
ST-2808 (SuperTech)
Bosch 2808 somthingorother

All 3 of these filters are for Honda applications.

All three of them are exactly the same, and the by-pass valve is highly suspicious...

I don't have the Bosch pictures up.

My proplem with the filters are this:

The by-pass valve is part of the stamped leaf spring that pushes the filter cartridge into the anti-drain back valve that surrounds the intake hole. Since the cartridge is snuggly fit into the anti-drain back valve there is no room for further moment up and down. This means that the holes in the top of the filter cartridge can never be exposed to provide enough surface area for the filter to by-pass when it needs to.

Yeah, some folks have concerns over this cost-cutting design. I'm sure it actually works (I suspect that the flat spring "clicks" away from the end cap as oil forces its way between the two), but the question is HOW well it works. If you have concerns over this design, I'd suggest looking for a traditional coil spring valve, which would include any Champions still on the shelves with the old design. More info below:
