Need some help. I bought the Autozone special with Quaker State oil and a STP filter for $12.00. I do not know any thing about STP oil filters. I am planning on starting an Auto-Rx treatment tomorrow. Will this filter be ok? Who makes it? I looked at other STP filters and they were the E-core type. This filter i have is the S8316. It looks to be made very well. To be honest it looks like a Mobil 1 filter? It has the red advb valve. Is this just old stock? Any info would be great. Ho does this filter compare to Motorcraft oil filters. Thanks

it's not a Mobil 1 in disguise. its a very basic filter. there's one disected on a 300m site. its a Champion ecore - aka Super Tech. a Motorcraft would be a better filter - but if you are looking for one for an auto rx cleaning - why not?

STP filter will be fine. That QS/STP is a solid 5k OCI combo. It will work great with your RX treatment, no worries. STP and ST both made by Champion, if not identical, very close. Depending on size, if like ST, the smaller < 3 in. dia., are non Ecore, the larger 3in. and > are mostly Ecore with a few exceptions.

I am running an STP 3950 on my truck now. The box said right on it ''Distributed by Champion Labs'' It was not an Ecore. I wonder if Champ is buying some of their slower movers from somebody else. I looked at a bunch of ST's a couple of weeks ago. The size seems to have little to do with which ones are Ecore, and conventional. In the past, I cut open a bunch of brands of filters, STP, ST, Hastings, Purolator, AC, and Fram. Except for the last 2, they were all about the same. Since the AC 1177 and ST 3950 are hard to find now, I was using Purolator L10193's. As far as the amount of media now, they are closer to Fram now than what they were before. They are either using a much better media, or cheapened under their German ownership.

Except for the dome end bypass, the STP may still be an average filter. I am looking forward to seeing mine cut open.

Just to avoid confusion the OP indicated he knew what an Ecore looks like and this was not one. It makes sense that it would look like a M1 since if this is a Champ non-Ecore it would probably use the same basic construction as M1, also a Champ. Not saying it is the same as M1 but probably looks like one.

In any event it will be fine for a Rx treatment.

It has the red advb valve.

What filters from Champ do we know have silicon ADBV's? The only ones that I'm aware of are M1 and K&N.

MannyMachine,

This champion filter will work just fine with your auto-rx treatment. Champion filters are quality filters and a good investment, a bang for the buck

Ahh, that's sentimental to me. The first oil & filter I ever bought was a 5-quart Quaker State/STP combo oil change from AutoZone.

STP filters are good, similar to SuperTech. Nothing wrong with e-cores.
