STP Motor Oil

This is more one for the marketing gurus, I suppose..

Why wouldn't STP, an old recognized name, do up a super formula, soemthing with a unique ad-pack, run it through API, ILSAC, take the spec to a refiner, and sell STP Motor Oil?

Surely there's room for something unique, some kind of hook. Like, no ZDDP, all moly and calcium. A green oil, as it were, something unique?

I agree entirely! With the market power of their name, it realy mistifies me why STP doesn't make a high-quality motor oil - lots of people would buy it on name, but then find out it is really good stuff. It seems that the STP name is now just treated like some cheap commodity - sold to any old company that sticks it on some basic oil, and barely markets it. I thought STP would have more pride in its trademark. Glad someone else feels this may too!

The last STP oil filter I opened was a relabeled Fram. They may have a reputation, but they don't care.

The STP website doesn't list it but I've seen STP 10w30 oil at Dollar General stores.

I saw on another thread the STP filters are from Champion, which makes me wonder if I am mixing up STP and Pennzoil in my above post. Too bad the edit function disapeared.

I like many of my car friends, lost any confidence in A. Granatelli & STP many years ago. There products were hipped so much, but it was a high cost so-so additive. My opinion has not changed when I read about their oil filter etc. JMO

Well, in these parts (No. Va., Washington DC), I've never seen it. Of course, we have little GC, no Trop Artic, no Chevron, even very little 5W20 of any kind of synthetics. It's a dry old duster of an oil market here.

But, at least we have lots of Havoline!

When STP oil first came out, they claimed it was good for 25,000 miles.(where else have I heard that??). It wasn't, of course, but I'm sure they sold a lot of oil before people wised up.

So from the looks of it, they do make quite a few engine oils. Is that synthetic I see in that list? Well I'll be darned.

What's real interesting is that there are no engine oils on there website, at least that I could find. Wonder what's up with that.
