At autozone we sell stp products . How are they in general in your opinion? Mostly the oil the price isn't bad for auto part pricing. How good is the oil though?

I'm sure it's decent stuff. It meets all current API specs, and that's what really counts.

I think the STP air filters & STP oil filters are overpriced vs. other brands with competitive features. The air filters are particularly disappointing for the price for my applications.

One of the other issues at Autozone for me in general is availability of discount coupons and / or discount codes vs. some competitors.

Ditto. It's just a brand name these days right?

Looks like ArmorAll and STP are one in the same, and are currently owned by Spectrum Brands.

"On April 28, 2015, Spectrum Brands entered the automotive supply business by acquiring Armored AutoGroup which makes Armor All finishes and STP automotive chemicals among other products.[10]"

So yeah -- lowest bidder or private labeling using a brand name that has historical recognition.

Wouldn't it be funny if STP products were made by the same company that makes Autozone's in-house brands?

Their antifreeze is made by RecoChem out of Canada.Same blue bottle is used by Parts Plus.

Look at the last PQIA report on the STP 5w20 Dexos approved oil. It looks quite good actually. A lot of boron and molybdenum similar to Castrol Edge in a way.

Just Zones attempt to kill American brands by pushing offshore made store brand products. the filters are mediocre at best and overpriced for the performance.
The big retail auto parts stores are doing everything they can to run the race to the bottom on parts quality by cutting out major manufacturers and going straight to offshore companies for store brands. A prime example is the STP Synthetic oil filter. 99%@30 microns for 9.99$ You can buy a FRAM Ultra for 8.99 that has synthetic glass media and is 99%@20 microns.
As far as oil goes, on modern cars ACEA and ILSAC are the standards that matter, API ratings are old and out of date.

IMHO, STP appeals to the thicker is better crowd....if it pours like molasses, its gotta be good....as for their motor oil,,,there is better stuff out there,,,but the thick oil syndrome is still with us...Marketing is a tricksters game and they do a good job ....sell us the sizzle and we will buy the steak... I am guilty of that,,,lol.

Not that I use STP products or anything and what you said might be true, but at least put in your post that you work for Fram and it might appear you have an axe to grind.
Besides, a lot of Fram products are foreign-made also, including the air and fuel filters. As compared to 20 years ago, is your manufacturing percentage of North American-made products higher or lower?

I never really cared for it. With rebates, it's cheaper to get high quality oils from SOPUS & Mobil.

I've never seen their oil until it replaced the Autozone brand on the shelf. How good it is, I'll never find out because I'm not going to buy it. Especially since it's made by whoever has the lowest price. That's why I don't buy the gas on military installations. They purchase from the lowest bidder also. I'll stick with the big name oil brands and top-tier gas.

I stopped buying STP oil filters when they went to E-core.
The STP "extra" filters are very expensive, and foreign made. I'm not a FRAM "fanboi" but I'll definitely pay for the XG Fram before I buy the expensive STP oil filter at AZ. The media is so much better.

LOL, I'm holding in my hand a brand new FRAM G2 fuel filter - made in Taiwan! I don't think anyone in the USA makes universal inline fuel filters anymore. I think the last one I bought was made in Israel.

I looked at the STP oil when I was in AZ a few months ago, but I didn't look at the bottom of the bottle to see who is bottling it. Like most store brands (SuperTech, Coastal, etc.) I figured it was just Warren or Citgo.

AZ has given half of the shelf for STP oil and 3/4 of the space for the oil filters. They also took away the filter catalogs. When I asked about that, they said I now have to wait to have an employee look up the filter for me. When I gave him my car info, he immediately said do you want the STP 123 regular or the STP 123 premium oil filter. I told him I didn't want an STP filter. Thankfully they had about 6 sku's for Bosch and I went with the 3300.
This was last week and my last time in AZ. Making me wait behind someone buying brakes and rotors to ask for an oil filter is not consumer friendly.

E-was and is still a good idea. If it had had a M media people would likely all be buying it .(I sure would ) it isn't for racing "I think) but normal use? E-core was a good idea. It will come back mark my word . People still use e-core like techno in cartridge and you don't hear any complaining

STP oil is made by Amalie. So is the Carquest oil at AAP. The AOC logo is on the bottom of both bottles. I have CQ Synthetic in my Honda now, and it has done a great job. No noises or consumption issues at all. Very quiet and smooth running engine and I get 35 MPG in mixed city/highway driving. I believe the CQ Syn will be the same as STP Syn. I bought 9 quarts of STP 0W20 for $33.00 with a coupon 2 weeks ago. I am changing oil in mine and my wife's car next weekend.

PQIA shows the STP Syn to be a very good oil, has a dose of moly and boron:

ILSAC GF5 and API SN specs are identical. try not to post falsehoods
