Many oils will advertise keeping pistons clean, but claiming that your oil will actually clean pistons is a bold claim. I think Valvoline Restore and Protect is the only other oil that is advertising the ability to clean pistons.

EDIT:
It looks like the some of the STP oil line-up is now being supplied by Amalie Oil Company. This is a recent change from Highline Warren.

They claim their other synthetics do too. Let's see some proof from STP. 50,000 miles protection from the Full Synthetic High Mileage ... Probably a misprint and should be 10,000 miles as shown on the same chart on the back of the jug.

Just updated the original post. Chart has a typo - Full Synthetic High Mileage is a 10K oil.

Being old enough to remember the thick goop that was what STP was all about, and their settlement with the FTC, I have a hard time having any respect for a product that bears the STP logo. For me, the brand is permanently tainted.

I would have to see substantial data from independent test labs, showing that STP products do what they are advertised to do, before I would change my mind.

I've used the STP semi-synthetic and full synthetic oils numerous times over the past 10ish years whenever AZ had the best price and/or I had rewards to spend. STP filters too. It worked well and I am not aware of any evidence to the contrary. The days of Richard Petty STP goop are long gone.

My weird view is I’m never sure where these brands get their oil. STP, Fram, O’Rilley, Supertech, Costco, and any store brand can be from many different companies-blenders-carriers. Old man stuff but recalling bulk oil delivery (15w40) that had machine oil in it. The tanker had just off loaded a delivery to a manufacturing plant. Our delivery was tainted with machine oil. Supposedly a reputable blender. Yes this is a different scenario but a “do it all” blender could have the same bottling system for all of their products. At least with the well known oil companies my belief is you’re getting pure product as specified.

It will match up to their oil filter mileage claims. The new 20,000 mile "Maximum Performance" oil filters look really good. I'm going to buy one for my Navigator. This oil seems similar to the new Mobil 20,000 Advanced Clean.

That nut welded on the top is nice. Like a K&N, except a good filter. That filter looks a little cheaper than the STP XL though? I wonder if it's the same quality.

It's about the same price as Mobil and castrol extended performance so you know one could do worse but I'm sure it's fine. I can't quite put my finger on if I've seen that bottle design before.

I like the aluminum colour of that filter; wish we got STP engine oil and filters up here in Canada.

Who remembers STP oil that contained graphite and was black when new...as you poured it into the valve cover? Of course it was 100% conventional oil...I think it was in the 1970s? I used it... didn't notice any difference but I thought the idea of graphite circulating and coating all the contact surface made sense to me at the time. I don't think it was a commercial success and it went away after maybe a couple years? Maybe there was no actual benefit to the graphite? I never heard anything about it being good or not or why it disappeared.

And there was the ARCO version …

Just the fear of having a filter tear keeps me from leaving a possible faulty filter on my car and guessing did it fail at 500 miles or 19000? Filters are ( were ) cheap before Fram went belly up.
