At Sears looked at Spectrum Multi-Vehcle ATF fluid asked sales woman who make's it and she replied Castrol.
Went to Wal-Mart and asked them who makes you Supertech motor oil. They said "it all comes from Pennzoil". I was wondering if the store brand is made to the same standard and formula as the name brand?

1) The sales people are often wrong.
2) The major companies often do make private label motor oils, but not neccessarily with the same formulas as their premium branded products.

I agree about #1, but how do you know that #2 is correct.

I never cared for store brands. For example, NAPA oil is supposed to be Valvoline but with a slightly less powerful additive add. I would prefer to use the Valvoline.

Everybody talks about using Super Tech conventional for Auto-RX cleaning but I use Valvoline conventional oil myself.

Store brands make me nervous. I prefer name brands. Heck, if you are not careful, it is still possible to come across SA and SB rated motor oils in some stores. Not that Sears and Super Tech motor oil are like those. But I steer clear of store brands.

Vavoline conventional or some other name brand of conventional motor oil is certainly decent enough for an Auto-RX cleaning. And if you can find synthetic oil or semi-synthetic oil for about the same price of conventional motor oil (maybe .80 cents a quart different) why not use the synthetic oil or semi-synthetic oil?

you would certainly cringe to know that I sometimes use Wal Mart Canada's, not only house brand Tech2000, but its also re-refined!!

There is a UOA just posted this afternoon on Walmart Canada's Tech 2000 synthetic and the wear numbers look extremely good!

It is my understanding that both Sears Spectrum and Walmarts Supertech sold in the US are made by Warren Performance Products. This can be verified by a "WPP" stamped on the bottom of the bottle.

Now Warren can buy their case oils and their additive pacakges from whomever they want. May be Pennzoil, may be BP, but WPP still remains the blender/supplier.

In most cases, store brand oils are formulated with less additives than their name-brand counterparts. However if they still meet the API specs than they should be sufficient in most applications.
