Hi guys , just found the forum , was thinking of switching to the stihl ultra full synthetic oil in my hi reving chainsaw , has anyone ever heard who makes it ?? I've been using the husky XP oil but its only a semi-synthetic and I was looking for the benefits of a good full syn.

I have been using Pennzoils full synthetic 2 stroke oil in my 034 super for more than 15 years. Its clean as a whistle inside
Stihl Ultra is excellent oil, use it at 50;1 with confidence.
It's made by Castrol. I haven't used it, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.
It is a very good oil. It was formulated by Castrol but it is blended and packaged my a speciality oil company in Shreveport, LA using Castrol's formulation. A very clean burning 2-cycle oil. All of the Stihl dealers up here stock it.
It being so hard to find around here I was wondering what the castrol name would be for it , and maybe that would be easier to find . Does castrol label it under there own name ?? I can't find a air cooled 2 stroke oil for chainsaws on there website .

hate2work , I finally found some , it took some looking around , the dealer said that Stihl is really after all the dealers to put some on the shelves.But I know of others that can't find it in other areas and thought if castrol had it in there product line that it might be easier to find . Castrol does not have it in the product line. They have an exclusive contract with Stihl. It was formulated by Castrol in Europe and a private speciality blender in Shreveport blends and packages it for them (Castrol & Stihl). This particular formulation is only available through Stihl.
In my above post I should have made it clear that the speciality blender in Shreveport blends it for them in North America or at least for the entire USA market. I'm not sure about the same product sold in Canada.
Which saw do you have? I've been running the husky xp in my 372xp since 2001 but I probably only have 200 hrs on it. Piston looks like new through the exhaust port.
Anyways fresh mix with the stihl oil will be fine too, as I suspect almost all homeowner saws die for improper fuel mix or lean carbs than from wearing out. I almost lost my saw with a cracked fuel pump diaphram in the first year, it started revving higher than normal and I didn't know much about them then, but I took it to the dealer and they replaced it.

I have a husky 346xp ,its a screamer !!! I think its turning close to 14,500 RPM , thats why I like to use the best oil I can find .Your 372xp is one of the best saws made in the 70 cc class , they say the best two saw combo is the 346xp and the 372xp .

I'd love to have a 346xp as well and I can see why you want good oil for it. Sometimes I cut cedar posts and I think I've killed my 141(haven't bothered to diagnose why it quit) so a 346 would be the closest thing to magic wand!

and how long was the 272, 371, and 372 out before stihl came out with better 70cc saw? A decade?
Just teasing, I actually wear a stihl ball cap for my country outtings(got it free), and any of the stihl pro saws would be welcome in my shed any day. I bought an old FS85 or 86 trimmer/brush saw last year which has impressed me quite abit.

While were on the oil kick , I have a friend that wants me to buy Jonsereds chainsaw oil from him but there's know way of telling what oil it really is . Is it the same as husky low smoke( conventional oil ) or the same as husky XP ( semi -synthetic )or neither !!! Husky and J-reds are both owned by electrolux in a round about way . Does Spectrum make j-reds oil also ???

Yes, they do make both. I believe the Jonsered oil is the same as the regular Husky low smoke.
Both Husky and Stihl are the Mercedes of the saw industry, hand down. But both are only as good as the dealer support you can get. We are extremely fortunate in my part of the country (lots of timber cutting) that we have an abundance of support for both saws. I happen to have one of each and would not take for either of them.

Stihl from what I've heard is a good synthetic 2cycle oil. The only problem I have is it breaks down biodegradable if not mistaken in 18 days. Also price is on the higher end. If you can work around that I see no problem.
There are other choices you may want to consider Amsoil synthetic 2cycle oil as another option. I wish I could use it as a comparison on a commercial level but the Shindaiwa One 2cycle oil is issued as I have no choice. Have no complaints on the Shindaiwa 2cycle oil.
