Stelo - experiences

Two new ones arrived today. I might wait until the 1st or 2nd to put it on.
Here are some readings, Rough week as much as I tired to watch what I ate, Christmas is big here and .... well ...

Not proud even though I maybe ate less than I used to, scary to me ... but it does not get worse and only better from here. Keep in mind this was Christmas week celebrations, the worst 12 hour snippets

Monday didnt break - 140. Tuesday peak - 187, Wed -151, Christmas Day 25th- 145, Friday the 26th- 173
Charts show terrible prolonged snacking and eating.

My average since getting the Stelo has been 114mg/dl
Sure, you are slightly off the wagon but looks you should be able to tame the beast. Depending if you have a morning spike or not (I don't think you do) you could just go 2MAD, 12 noon - 6pm eating window.

No, no real morning spike, sometimes a small increase when I get out of bed, but it’s pretty flat.
This is one of my better days before we got into the holidays. I do get a spike during Pickleball, but I hear that’s normal I think from what I read.
I get up between seven and 8 o’clock every day

Ok, Dec 31 2025
Put the new sensor on. Im hoping a CAC scan does not mess the next one up at the end of Jan 2026. Dexcom suggests a lead shield for a CT scan I dont know if they will accommodate that or not. Any other type like MRI it can not be warn for obvious reasons.

Anyway, I thought I would post photos of the process for those who don't know. This is the Dexcon Stelo.

This is what comes out of the box, its preloaded injector with the sensor inside.

Cover removed from injector, ready to be placed firmly on the skin and you push the button, and a loud snap pushes the sensor onto you skin along with that "pin" that goes into the soft flesh under the skin where it stays. Looking up close you can see the needle/filiment/tube/pin (not sure what to call in that is buried into your skin and how it measures glucose in the soft tissue under your skin.

Empty injector below, you scan code on the side with your smart phone and it connects to your Bluetooth

The kit also comes with an adhesive patch that goes over the one already on your skin. Also in the photo is a 3rd adhesive patch I buy aftermarket online that goes over all the supplied stuff for some extra security and hope it stays put for the full 15 days of the sensor useful life. You can clearly see the three layers of adhesive patches. One is preinstalled on the sensor and once injected sticks on your skin the same time as you inject the sensor. That is the bright white small ring, second ring is the supplied adhesive that you place over it and third is the aftermarket I buy.

Ok, so less than excited my fasting blood glucose is running around 110. which can be addressed from what I read.
This scares me enough to hopefully arrest and reverse. The device amazes me and the other brand @Pablo has.
One last time, even though I complimented him a lot already. I thank @Donald for bringing this device to our attention in here.
What a fantastic aid for those who really want to understand EXACTLY what all types of food and activity does to your blood sugar.
An education well worth the cost to better health, understanding and possibly less prescription drugs in your future by working on your health.

110 shouldn't "scare" you (here we go again). When did you last eat and what did you eat?

Yesterday nothing after 7:30ish pm for sure.
Ummm... protein drink mixture with skim milk, a very few small slices of smoked turkey, small portion of potato salad all by 6 pm ... then after before 7:30 ish a small amount of cheese and sausage... Christmas leftovers. Couple dark chocolate almonds.

I have noticed protein drink barely moves the BG .. from what I remember.
When I say scare, keep in mind, until Nov 2025 I was never over 100/ and right now, I am only eating in a 4 hour window. However true, the holidays have corrupted that a little bit.
Tonight will be the last corruption *LOL* when we go out and have the world's best brick oven pizza before fireworks tonight. I was going to opt for a steak house (Long Horn) which would be much better but the drive and timing of when my wife finishes work and getting to the fireworks on time. Barefoot Landing (its freezing cold out of course)

The most common disease on the planet is insulin resistance. More than half the population has it. Maybe be adult population rather than total population. Your body starts going insulin resistant maybe 10 years before it's picked up on a blood glucose test. You don't know it.

Hopefully regular doctors will start to become more tuned in to metabolic health. And order insulin level tests yearly. Simple lifestyle changes can set one back on the proper course when you catch insulin resistance early on.

And counting cookies by one, rather than by five helps. And having wife cut baked pan of brownies into normal size pieces instead on me cutting the pan into Donald size pieces (1/4 of the pan,).

No, I do not eat anything until my 4 hour window opens typically 3:30 to 7:30 Yes, true fasting every day of the week again, except some exceptions Christmas week could have turned into up to 8 hour window on some days.
Most of Christmas week I stuck to it but not all the time. You can actually see the spikes starting around 4Pm. Keep in mind this was Christmas week so wasnt exact. Throw in a glass of wine or two, company, games, snacks etc.

I dont take any meds until evening. Now weaning down from 10mg to 5mg statin *alternate every other day for a week or two) and Tamsulosin every other day plus a baby aspirin and one 24 hour antihistamine... I looked that one up, does not affect BG.

I will also be weaning off the antihistamine next month and see if I can stay out of the ER. I have to slowly go off any drugs I take or my immune system freaks out and starts randomly blowing up body parts.

Not giving medical advice but relating what I have read. Some cardiologists who understand that LDL is not the problem but rather inflammation is are still prescribing statins as in addition to lowering LDL the statins decrease inflammation. A CRP blood test measures inflammation. Many things cause inflammation.

I have been reading below 70 for several hours now and have 4 hours left on grace period. I am thinking sensor is not reporting accurate info. I ate a protein meal shake at 2 PM.

Ok, so, pretty much, no doubt I am in pre diabetes territory. I'm going to first finish losing weight unless I find an actual diabetes doctor/specialist in my area before that time. I would like to have him order the proper tests and then go over with me.

As far as Stelo accuracy. Well, I suspected it was correct and at 10:45 this Friday morning I compared it with a finger prick test.
Dead on for both - 119 not sure if this is considered fasting though, but want to stress the average is 130 for the last 24 hours. Last time I ate was 11PM the night before so it's been 12 hours HOWEVER I did have coffee this morning, with a dash of milk, almost black, never sugar.

That peak you see around 11AM is 187

Company last night and the last night of my life regarding deserts and snacks. Well meaning family member brought some over in addition to everything else we had from the holidays.

Anyway, as of right now, finger prick and stelo exact match. (ignore the time on the tester) 10:45 AM EST

As far as the CGM placement. I am going to go back to mounting it under my arm rather then the back of my arm.
Even though I put the new one on the back of my arm, when you sleep on your side its mashed into the mattress so I have been sleeping mostly all on one side or my back.
For me both locations proved accurate and under my arm about 6 inches from my armpit it would be more protected from bangs and laying down, etc. The more I think about it maybe the back on my arm is more closer to under my arm *LOL*

Anyway 11 days left on sensor so way too soon to say but the aftermarket adhesive SEEMS to be really solid. Im getting depressed though, seeing what my blood glucose readings are.
