Smoking, soda, booze, deserts etc are all treats and are for special occasions . They are not a daily staple.

At 6'3" to get a BMI of 24.9 you would have to get down to 198.5 Lbs

And at 6'3" an ideal BMI (middle of the good MBI range of 21.7) would be a weight of 173 Lbs.

the doc wants me to get to 200. Ill run it by him.
I have been buying new clothes. I was wearing size 38 now in size 34.

A BMI of 25 or above is over weight, a BMI of 18.4 or less is too light.

So you want your BMI to be between 24.9 to 18.5 and the middle of that range is a BMI of 21.7

BMI calculations don't work for larger framed people, athletes, or tall people. According to this formula I am obese at 6'4" and 265, and I should weigh under 200#. Under 245 I am cut and under about 220 I start looking like a scarecrow.

We're so accustomed to obesity in our society today that its become the norm.

Watch a movie, TV show or something from the 1960's and it is remarkable how trim and lean people are.

Yeah, but they were probably smoking and doing coke. Now they just do coke.

At 6'4" to get down to a BMI of 24.9 you should weigh 204 Lbs.

To calculate what weight you should be = (BMI X height in inchs squared)/705

(24.9 X 76 squared)/705 = 204

Like I said, scarecrow at that weight. Not healthy at all. This cannot be applied to everyone.

Good for you OP! Your success speaks for itself! I definitely need to lose weight also, but the BMI talk is laughable. Im 6ft6 and weigh 330 lbs. Goal weight is 250-260. Bmi says normal is 160-215...ugh no thanks.

You are lucky. My friend Scott got taken to the ER with a blood glucose over 1000, in a coma for two days, on an insulin drip and in ICU. He didn't wake up out if his coma until his blood glucose was around 600. He was very lucky to have been alive after that.

Having said that..... Check your blood sugar like you should. Many people with diabetes do not do this and that is never a good deal.

I know. My chiro says a lot of his patients do nothing about their diabetics. They take a pill and nothing else.
He told me he's glad I'm being so reactive to it.
I took my blood sugar last night 2 hours after eating a burger, sans bun, and 3 ears of fresh sweet corn on the cob. It said 120. Well in the green after a meal.

I just hit 51. Hit 50 and you fall apart.

I was diagnosed with type2 in Jan of 2017, doctor was glad to write an Rx for metformin and send me home. I decided not to fill the script and try totally changing my diet first. Came back 3 months later and she was very pleased with the results and said the Metformin was working. I said "No actually I never filled it" The look on her face was priceless. She said I have to eat a lot of carbs at every meal and she will keep me covered with meds. I said "no thanks" and changed doctors.

My new doc told me that he doesn't care what I am doing, my results are good so keep it up. All I really did was cut out carbs, sort of like a keto diet without going overboard on the fat. Not only did I lose weight but my A1C has been good for years. I do sometimes eat horrible desserts, but truly once in a while. As long as I watch my carbs 95% of the time I have no issues with blood sugar numbers anymore. I read somewhere that the definition for type 2 Diabetes may not be correct and it is more of a carb intolerance than an actual disease. I tend to agree with that from my experience.

BUT everyone is different and you have to check your sugar and find out what works for you. I tolerate fruit very well, but give me corn or rice and my sugar shoots up. Potatoes are out of the question but sweet potatoes don't affect me much. You have to dial in what works for you and it takes time. Basically what it comes down to is cut out the carbs and the diabetes goes away. It isn't that difficult to live off of meat, cheese and veggies. If you get creative there are many really delicious foods that you can make that work with your diet so you don't feel left out. The secret is looking into the amount of carbs in everything. Certain things have tons of carbs and you wouldn't expect them to, like dairy.

Dredging up 3 topics wastes everyone's time.

As no one here is a doctor, save medical advice for the people trained for it.
